Michael Snarey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 20 to Jan. 21, 2020.
Snarey, Michael R. Frankenmuth, MI formerly of Bridgeport and Lake Orion, MI Michael Robert Snarey passed away January 18, 2020 after a long-fought battle with a lengthy illness, his loving family by his side. He was born on June 29, 1944 in Pontiac, Michigan to William and Helen (Poland) Snarey. He grew up in Lake Orion, Michigan, graduating from Lake Orion High School. After graduation, he attended Olivet College on a football scholarship where he earned his teaching degree. He earned his master's degree + 20 from Central Michigan University. He taught almost his entire career in Bridgeport Spaulding Community School District, retiring in 2002. He taught PE, social studies, art, and numerous other classes to middle school students. He coached football and wrestling for many years. He was also the head football coach at BHS for many years. He loved "his kids" and they loved him. If you ask any student from Bridgeport who their favorite teacher was, you're most likely to hear Mr. Snarey. He married Pamela Bankerd Snarey and had two sons, Matthew (Melissa) Snarey and Andrew Snarey. He then married Peggy Bohn Snarey and took her 3 children as his own. Darrin Bohn, Brent (Andres) Bohn, and Barbara (Robin) Cittel. He blended the two families perfectly. Besides his wife of 40 years, Peggy and his 5 children, he leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by them all. Michael loved golfing, going to the casino, and spending his winters in Florida, but he especially loved his family deeply. A service of remembrance for Michael "Coach" Snarey will take place on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin Street. Michael's family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. According to Michael's wishes, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Bridgeport football program. Mr Snarey was by far one of my favorite teachers at Bridgeport. Always smiling, always willing to talk when I needed to chat. Years later I would run into him and Peggy around town and they both always remembered me by name, even 25 years after graduating. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family, and especially by his students and players. May he rest in peace. Mrs Snarey be comforted in knowing he was loved and respected by all of Bridgeport.

From the moment we met Mike down here in Florida, we knew he was a special person. His friendliness made him shine, and he always had a smile on his face. From that first year, he showed that he loved his family...Peggy, his children and her children, and he made no distinction...they were all his, and they were always foremost in his thoughts.
He loved playing golf and shuffleboard, and particularly loved a good joke. Mike was always fun to be around, and at the end of the day, loved a good soak in the hot tub. We always enjoyed his company, and will miss him greatly. Our thoughts are with Peggy and the family at this time.

What a great influence he had on an impressionable, first-year teacher ("Rook"), and the culture and climate of our middle school. Enjoyed by colleagues and revered by students, Mike was generous with his humor and his time. Nothing but fond memories there.

Coach always asked for and expected 100 percent of his players and wrestlers, nothing less. He was an amazing teacher as well, never without a smile, and forever helping "his kids", whatever they needed. This leaves a huge hole not only in my heart, but in the heart of the Bridgeport community. God bless and Rest in Peace Coach. BEARCATS FOREVER!

I had the privilege of coaching with him the last few years before he would retire. A very sweet man that will be missed. See you on the other side Coach.
