Michael George Sowle

Michael George Sowle, 62, passed away peacefully at home on January 29, 2023, surrounded by family after a long illness.

Born on August 4, 1960 to Joseph "Bucket" Sowle and Norma Kruger Sowle, he was the youngest of five children. Mike found his passion in fixing cars at the age of thirteen when he took apart his first motor and then put it back together again. That passion became a thirty-seven-year career, working at multiple local garages.

Mike met the love of his life, Patricia Mickan Sowle in the spring of 1985. They married in 1989 and spent the next thirty-four years building a home and raising four wonderful children. In addition to tinkering with cars, Mike enjoyed hunting and fishing but most of all spending time with family and friends. Mike would help anyone in need, and most people who met him became his friend.

Mike retired in 2016 when he was diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), an extremely rare, devastating neurological disease. Mike fought long and hard, always more worried about how his disease affected his family and loved ones. Even in death, his concern was about how his life could help, so he lovingly and selflessly decided to donate his body to medical science.

Michael is survived by his wife Patricia, children Richard Sowle (Arisha), Kathryn Gilboy (Jeremy), Courtney Gilboy (Joshua) & Mike Sowle; siblings Joseph Sowle, Bonnie Kruger, Penny Renner (Luke) & Valerie Fisher (Tim); grandchildren Gavin, Connor, William, Paul, Eden, Alexander, Sakarah, Jerdyn, Alexis & Nevaeh; mother-in-law and father-in-law Richard & Sharon Mickan, brothers-in-law David Mickan and Dan Schulz; sister-in-law Jennifer Wells; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins all of whom he held dear in his heart.

Our family would like to thank Saratoga County Hospice, especially Steve and Karen, and Dr. Eric Mulho for the wonderful care they gave to Mike and his family.

At his request, there will not be any funeral services at this time. The family will hold a celebration of life at a future date.
