Dr. Michael E. Taylor

It is going to take me a long time to learn how to deal with not having Dr. Mike Taylor around. He enriched my life both musically and personally more than I'll ever be able to express. My thoughts and prayers will continue to be with his family.

I first met Mike in the 60's and

first worked with him at "Paris

after Dark" on Rt.5l. He was so

shy (yes, he was) and we always

had so much fun on the gig. He was

as NICE as he was handsome and a

gifted jazz musician. He had such

a peace about him always. I used to

ask him if he ever got angry. Never

did I hear him say an unkind word

about any person. It is odd that

Bobby Boswell and Herb Marshall, two

other bassists that Pgh. jazz world

have lost, alongwith Mike all had

such gracious presences. His whole

personna will be sorely missed by

his fellow (and female) musicians.

Now, he is in God's orchestra.

I was so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. I took classes with him at University of Pittsburgh and have fond memories of him running circles around the musicologists in a musicology seminar when it came to identifying modes. I am certain he will be missed but he will also be remembered with love.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Mike's passing. It was a genuine pleasure to work with Mike while I was a grad student at Pitt. He was one of the kindest, warmest people I have ever encountered, as well as a superb musical talent. He'll be greatly missed by myself and countless other students and friends.
