Michael S. Turrano, 66, of East Patterson Street, Lansford, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 21, in the Blue Mountain Health System's Gnaden Huetten Campus, Lehighton. Pennsylvania. He was the husband of Marge F. (Catti-vera) Turrano. They were married for 44 years. He retired from PennDOT in 2013, having worked as a mechanic. He previously operated an auto repair business in Lansford for many years.Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late Benjamin and Carmella (Nardozzi) Turrano.
A 1966 graduate of William Allen High School, he attended Lehigh Community College and served in the Army National Guard.
Mike was a committed member of Lansford Little League for 34 years, having served as its long-tenured president. He was also a president of the Panther Valley Little League Tournament, sponsored by Panther Valley Little League for teams in District 11, and coached many youths in the Panther Valley.
He was also a Cub Scout master in Lansford and vice president of his union.
The deceased enjoyed hunting and was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Surviving in addition to his widow are a daughter Mindy of Lansford; three sons, Benjamin, and his wife, Melanie, of Tamaqua, Michael V., and his wife, Danielle, of Barnesville, and Anthony J. of Coaldale; three sisters, Grace, wife of Robert Fritizinger Jr., and Lorie, wife of Glenn Fritzinger, both of Nesquehoning, and Maryellen, wife of Mark Huffort of Coplay; and five grandchildren, Benjamin H., Ethan, Sam, Maggie and Shea.
Service: Funeral service 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 655 E. Broad St., Tamaqua. Gathering of friends 5-8 p.m. Tuesday.
