Michael E Wedell

Captain Mike "Weaz" Wedell set sail on his final voyage September 3, 2025.

He was born September 26, 1950, in Waukegan, Illinois. His family moved to Florida in 1953 and eventually settled in Punta Gorda, Florida where he ultimately attended Charlotte High School. Mike was a skilled football player throughout his high school days and remained a Tarpon fan long after. He discovered his love of music and skill for the drums at a young age and continued jamming out well into his adult years.

Mike proudly served in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. After his military service he worked in the construction industry as a block mason/concrete finisher until he joined the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local Union 630 located in West Palm Beach, Florida. He joined the union in 1993 where he became a welder and pipefitter until retiring in 2008.

Mike enjoyed the outdoors whether it was fishing, golfing, camping, hunting or grilling out. In 2004 he made his favorite activity, fishing, his second career by receiving his captains license and starting Ebb Tide Charters. It allowed him to share his love and knowledge of the sport which was one of his greatest joys.

He greatly impacted so many lives during his almost 75 years with us. He lived a life full of strength, tenacity and resilience and faced life's challenges with grit; never backing down. He deeply loved and cared for all his family and friends, near or far, and especially enjoyed reminiscing and telling many stories. For all who loved him, whether you knew him as Mike, Weaz, Captain or Opa, know he loved you more.

He is survived by his wife, Madeleine (Field) Wedell, son Michael (Jenny) Wedell Jr and daughter Marian (Joe) Grizzaffi. Grandchildren Veronica (Adam Nolin) Milo, Lilli Wedell, Harper Grizzaffi, Otto Grizzaffi and great granddaughter Luna Nolin. As well as Mandy's partner in life John Page, many nieces, nephews and a lifetime of good friends.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Paul Wedell Sr. and Mary Wedell, brother Paul Wedell Jr., daughter Mandy Wedell and grandson Michael Wedell III.

A celebration of life will be held at Rotonda Elks Lodge 2710, 303 Rotonda Blvd E, Rotonda West, FL 33947 on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a short service beginning at 12:00 p.m. The family welcomes all those who loved Mike to please stop by for some food, drinks and storytelling.
