WESTBROOK, MICHAEL ALLEN; age 66; of Mt. Pleasant; passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, in Mt. Pleasant. Graveside Services with Military Honors for Michael will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Riverside Cemetery, 800 W. Broadway Street, Mt. Pleasant. Fr. Don Henkes will officiate. Immediately following Graveside Services, family and friends will gather for a luncheon at the Mt. Pleasant VFW Post 3033. There will be a eulogy by Barry Loper and time for family and friends to share memories of Michael. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family in care of Patrick Westbrook which will be given to various military organizations that were important to Michael. Envelopes will be available at both services as well as at Clark Family Funeral Chapel. Michael was born June 22, 1948, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Scott and Ruth (Kroetsch) Westbrook. He was a career military man, having served his country for 22 years, in the U.S. Navy for 6 years and then the Army National Guard for 16 years. He received numerous awards and commendations throughout his years of service. While in the Navy he traveled to many different countries such as France, Germany, Newfoundland, Scotland, England, Russia, Norway, Africa and many more. Also during his time in the National Guard he worked at the Sigma Kappa Sorority on the campus of Michigan State University for 20 years. His culinary skills were put to good use preparing lunches, dinners and special occasion meals for the girls. He was famous for his grilled cheese Friday’s and chocolate chip cookies! Michael was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He was a supporter of the Army Historical Foundation Campaign to build the National Museum of the United States Army. He also supported the Support a Troop campaign and was a member of the NRA. Michael was an avid reader and had a large number of book collections. He was also a certified amateur radio operator and collected communication equipment. He was an outdoor sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Michael also enjoyed making his own wine. He had many pets over the years, taking many stray animals into his home, and fed the squirrels and other wildlife throughout the cold winter months. Michael is survived by his siblings, Lynn (Bernie) Rattelle of Bay City, Jannette (David) Graham of Parker, CO, Patrick (Christine) Westbrook of Mt. Pleasant, and Darlene (Troy) Pickett of Waukegan, IL; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family was very important to him! Michael was preceded in death by his parents and brother Daniel Westbrook.
