I apologize for my long-delayed condolences for Professor Michael Wiseman, who was my senior thesis advisor at UC Berkeley in 1980. I had also been an undergraduate student in Professor Wiseman's outstanding Urban Economics course at UC Berkeley in Fall 1979. It was during an office hour with Professor Wiseman in Fall 1979 that he surprised me by asking me what topic I would be focusing on for my thesis. To that point, I had not even thought I was capable of undertaking a significant undergraduate research project and writing a thesis. With Professor Wiseman's amazing guidance, I completed my thesis in Spring 1980, and as a result, graduated with honors in Economics. I also recall Professor Wiseman writing a recommendation letter for my successful admission to the then-Graduate School of Public Policy at UC Berkeley. I will always be grateful to Professor Wiseman for his encouragement and support of my academic and professional pursuits.

Dear family of Dr. Wiseman -
I was a graduate student of Dr. Wiseman in his "Poverty and Social Policy." It was one of my favorite courses in graduate school - both fascinating and challenging. Following my graduation, Dr. Wiseman acted as an incredibly valuable advisor and advocate and helped me in the process of getting into a doctoral program. I'm afraid I have an email draft to him that I never sent, but I credit his assistance for helping me get to where I am today (now a PhD!). I only just discovered his passing through the APPAM annual meeting, but wanted to send along my condolences. May his memory be a blessing to you. I will always remember him as a valuable teacher and researcher who was vital in my own academic life.
All my best,
Abby Lane

Dear Carol and Family,
Although our times together were limited, they were so meaningful. My life was touched and my ministry to our Lord challenged by being with you both. I will be holding the family up in prayer, especially with all the other challenges facing each of us now. May the Lord bless and keep you Carol. We love you.

Mike touched many lives for good. Well done, good and faithful servant.
It does not feel like 32 years since Mike and Carol and family lived in EC, the period in their lives during which we were physically proximate. Our prayers are with the Wiseman and Ortman families.
