Michele Ann "Shelly" Dublin (née Pratt) gained her angel wings on December 28th, 2024 at 9:41 AM at Baylor, Scott, and White Medical Center- Hillcrest in
Waco, Texas.
Michele, or Shelly as she was known by her friends and loved ones, was born on June 22nd, 1965, in La Mesa, California to Nancy (née Altman) and Michael Pratt. She spent her childhood in Santee, California where she graduated from Santana High School in 1983. She married John Dublin in 1985, with whom she shared 2 children: John, born in 1986, and Samantha, born in 1990. They amicably divorced in 1993. She worked in retail all of her adult life and excelled at customer service roles. She had recently relocated to Bellmead, Texas to be close to her daughter Samantha and son-in-law Earl Loewe.
Michele was a voracious reader, favoring authors VC Andrews, Dean Koontz, Stephen King, and Ann Rule. She loved music and boasted a varied and unique collection of vinyl albums and 45s, which she treasured. Her favorite bands included Queen, Elton John, and Fleetwood Mac. She loved spending time with her family for birthdays, holidays, and for no reason at all, as she was part of a very close-knit family. Her favorite color was tie-dye, and she was just as colorful. She adhered to the phrase "Live, Love, Laugh" - she lived well, loved hard, and laughed often.
She is survived by Samantha and Earl Loewe; stepfather Stephen Long (El Cajon, California); brother Robert Taliaferro (Lakeside, CA); sister Sandra Pratt (Lakeside, CA); her nieces Megan Pehl, her husband Joshua, and their 4 children (Lakeside, CA), Mollie Pratt-Jones and her 3 daughters (Lakeside, CA), and Karli Jones (El Cajon, CA); her nephews Christopher Marmo, his wife Jessica and their 2 children (Lakeside, CA), Kyle Marmo, his wife Jeannie and their 2 children (El Cajon, CA), and Noah Pratt-Miller (Lakeside, CA). Michelle is also survived by her beloved cats: Sully, Cheeto, and Jack, whom Samantha took and cared for in Texas after a severe illness in 2020, before reuniting with them all in October 2024, and her fur grandbabies, Pepperoni and Biggie.
She was greeted in Heaven by her son John Dublin (October 18th, 2009), mother Nancy Long (December 26th, 2020), father Michael Pratt (October 30th, 2010), and sister Sherri Marmo (October 21st, 2013). She was further reunited with the many cats she loved over the years, as well as her other beloved pets, including a rat named Macy Gray and a fancy green cheek conure named Rainy, as they waited patiently for her at the Rainbow Bridge.
Her family wishes to thank the emergency room staff of Baylor, Scott & White Medical Center- Hillcrest, including Dr. Brandon Allen, Dr. Nathan Delano Lott, the intubation team who worked quickly to get her on a ventilator, and the countless nurses; all of whom fought tirelessly to try to save her; but were gentle and honest as hope slowly faded. A special thank you to Chaplain Sarah, who provided love, support, and resources as the grief settled in and took hold.
A celebration of life will be held in San Diego in June 2025. Official details will be announced at a later date.
If we treat each other with respect and more often wear a smile, remembering that this special dash might only last a little while. So, when your eulogy is being read with your life's actions to rehash, would you be proud of the things they say about how you spent your dash?
