Mick Ralphs, guitarist and co-founder of classic rock bands Mott the Hoople and Bad Company, died in June 2025 at the age of 81 following a stroke suffered years before.
If Ralphs had only ever helped form Mott the Hoople, with whom he played on the classic David Bowie (1947–2016)-penned anthem "All the Young Dudes," he would have earned his place in music history for that alone. The year after leaving the group, however, Ralphs connected with Free singer Paul Rodgers and formed the supergroup Bad Company. This became an even bigger act, still heard on the radio today, thanks to classics like "Feel Like Makin' Love" and "Can't Get Enough," both of which Ralphs cowrote. His work creating these enduring hits earned his entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with an induction ceremony planned for November 2025.
"My heart just hit the ground," Bad Company singer Paul Rodgers said in a statement by the band. "He has left us with exceptional songs and memories. He was my friend, my songwriting partner, an amazing and versatile guitarist who had the greatest sense of humour."

I have been listening to the guitar playing of Mick most of my life. From Mott The Hoople "Mott" to Bad Company(every album of theirs that he played on). He has been a constant. His guitar playing could be thunderous and it could be delicate. I've enjoyed all of it. Thanks for the great ride Mick and may you rest in peace.
Mick Ralphs, his guitar.

Four major parts of my youth and adulthood in terms of sound have gone the way of all flesh since June 9, 2025: Sly Stone, Brian Wilson, Lou Christie and, now, as of June 23, 2025, Mick Ralphs. You are a very strong part of my youth and a strong part of my listening pleasures as an adult, even as an old man.
Mick, thanks for all you did as guitarist for Mott the Hoople and Bad Company, add songwriter and co-writer in so many cases. Condolences to your old band mates and to your family. I thank God for having you become a part of my own journey.
