Mike Anderson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 24, 2016.
Michael Shayne "Mike" Anderson, Sr., 70, died Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at his home in Wheeler. He was a beloved husband, father and "Poppie." Mike loved golfing, hunting, working in his yard, music and most of all playing with his grandchildren. Mike was extremely talented and could fix anything he set his mind to. He loved his church, his family and friends.

Mike was born August 11, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois, to Walter and Allene Anderson. He graduated from Baldwyn High School in 1964. Mike studied at Northeast Mississippi Community College and completed his education at Delta State University. He attended Wheeler Baptist Church before moving his membership to First Baptist Church in Booneville.

Mike was an avid sports fan and spent his career coaching and mentoring students at different schools including Wheeler, Jumpertown, Marietta, Pine Grove and Northeast Mississippi Community College. Mike loved basketball, golf and baseball, and developed many lasting relationships with his players and families over the years. Some of his most treasured memories were the days he spent teaching and coaching. The number of lives he was able to touch over his career is endless.

Golfing and hunting were two of Mike's favorite pastimes. He always loved and treasured the many hunting trips he was able to experience with his son, Shayne. Mike enjoyed golfing at Booneville Golf and Country Club. He was such a dear friend and loved by all. Mike's kind spirit and loving heart are two of the things that people will remember most about him. He has touched so many lives and his memory will live on in so many.

Mike's greatest blessing was being named "Poppie" by his four grandchildren whom he absolutely adored. He looked forward to all of the milkshake runs with his grandson, Reese and tea parties and trips to "Jump Jump" with Abbie and Evie. Mike loved getting to watch his grandson, Rob, play football at Mooreville High School. He was a family man in all aspects. Mike was a devoted husband of 48 years to his wife, Wanda, whom he loved dearly. His two children, Shayne and Kim, were the center of his world and the lights of his life. Some of his greatest memoires are from the family beach trips with his wife, children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 25, 2016, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Lynn Jones and Dr. Ken Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Prentiss Memorial Gardens.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Strange Anderson; one son, Shayne Anderson of Booneville; one daughter, Kim Anderson Currie (Nathan) of Norcross, Georgia; one sister, Beth Mitchell (Dick); four grandchildren, Rob Turner, Reese Anderson, Abbie Currie and Evie Currie.

Pallbearers are Dr. David Greenhaw, C.L. Davidson, Dr. Ken Goodwin, Junior Roper, Sammy Green, Kevin Wiley, George Via, Macky Bullard, Todd Sweeney, Jim Caver and Manford Saylors.

Honorary pallbearers are Danny Bishop, Terry Fraiser, H.T. Palmer, Red Shelton, Jackie Smith, Buddy Smith, Joe Franks, Dooney Holman and Mark Hatfield.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at McMillan Funeral Home and Friday from 12:00 P.M. until service time at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family request, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Booneville or Gideon's International.

To all of Mike's family, I am sorry I didn't get to come by but you are in my prayers. Mike always acted like he was glad to see me and asking about my family. Mike was a good man in a time when real men are hard to find. Wanda, Shayne and Kim, just wanted y'all to know I'm truly sorry for your loss.
