Mike CHOMETA Obituary
Mike Chometa, born July 15, 1925 in Corinne, SK, passed away April 24, 2015 in St. Paul's Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; children, Larry (Tammy Luciw), Leslie (Bruce) Bowering, Paula Tanner and her son Bob Epp, and James (Phoebe), all of Saskatoon; six grandchildren; ten great- grandchildren; sister, Alice Chometa; two brothers-in-law, Jack (Dolly) Hogaboam, Jim (Mimi) Hogaboam and sister-in-law, Reona Hogaboam; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by granddaughter, Jodie Chometa; siblings, Mary (Mike) Juravel, Olga (Stan) Armstrong; and sister-in-law, Sharon (Barry) Slater. Mike worked for the CPR from 1946 to 1986. In 1970 he purchased M&L – 112th Esso Service Station in Sutherland which he operated until 1977. In 1980 he built a Car Wash and all family members assisted in running the business. He enjoyed providing his business service to all for forty-three years. He enjoyed socializing with his customers and other people, volunteering, helping with bingo and cracking jokes, and was always happy. He will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew him. Mike was such a wonderful man,I was honored to love him and be apart of his life for over 27 years. He was a fantastic Papa to my daughter, Caitlin who has has so many special memories of her Papa like,playing cards,listening to all his stories, attempting to help her with her homework, him tapping his legs when listening to polka music, teaching her how to fish, and all the Birthday barbeques we shared with Grandma and Papa. I remember all the times it was 30 below and we would show up at the rink and Mike or Coach as we had to call him, was waiting for us. He was always one of the happiest guys I ever met and I can still remember his laugh.
