I played with Mike in san antonio when we were 17-18 years old in Allstars. there was something about him that I knew he would make it big in baseball. I will read the book to find this out and teach my child his ambitions. Mike was a great Guy dedicated to the game.

Mandy,
I just read the SI story on Mike. Being 37 I, myself am going through what Mike was ealier, showing my wife things like where our money is , my insurance policies, telling her who to talk to about things in case something happens to me. Yesterday I found out I have Diabetes and very high blood pressure. Not that I wasn't, but now I'm going to try to be the father to my daughter and son the way it related to me the way that Mike was to your two boys. God Bless You and your family. I hope you do have a daughter, and may she be blessed to know from family and freinds what caring father she would have had. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Michael Coolbaugh has surely been welcomed to play on the grandest of all baseball teams by Raymond Johnson Chapman (d. 1920).

Dear Amanda,
Please know that you and your boys and your child on the way is in our prayers. I remember all your wonderful stories about Mike. Even on the days when the children at school were driving you crazy, you had the biggest smile and always a glow whenever we talked about Mike. May God Bless You Always.

Being from San Antonio, and attending a local high school close to where Mike attended, I regret not meeting this exceptional human being. It's a big loss for the city and for the baseball community. Being the same age as Mike, I have learn to appreciate life and all its gifts that everyday brings us. My great condolances go out to Mike's family.

I will never forget the sound of the bat hitting the baseball and then seeing Mike Coolbaugh get hit. As the stadium went into shock 3 medical doctors went onto to the field to help. I knew all three and could see the determination through their faces to keep him alive.I was so proud of them but yet felt so sorry for him, they did the best they could but God was ready for him. Mike will be in a better life now and may he rest in peace. You will forever be remembered.

I knew Mike since the 4th grade. We met playing little league ball together. He was the first to support a girl playing baseball rather than softball. We would grow up together playing ball, though I moved over to softball, eventually and played with his younger sister Linda as we got older. Mike and I ended up at the same middle school and high school later. We never had less than two classes together every single year. I was never fortunate enough to see him play in peron after high school(though I was always at the games then), but I sure did whoop and holler whenever I caught him on the tube, or in the paper. My own daughters 7, 5, & 3 began their tee-ball, base ball and softball careers this year and I must admit, Mike and his friendship was always one of those initial memories that would come when ever I went to the little league field to watch them play. The love of the game is what sparked our friendship. Other similarities (and differences) kept it close and many times not so close, but that is how most lifelong special ‘aquaintances’ go. I am so proud to have known him and so proud and happy he realized his dream that I was blessed to have actually seen him dream. He lived and died doing what he loved, no one can beat that. I feel for his family and will give my condolenses again in person. We all loved you Mike. I am sure they are playing our song somehwere up there, John Fogherty, “CENTERFIELD”, for you, me, Mikala, that other guy from study hall(Jeff?) and of course, our other Michael. You will always be our MacBeth

Dear Mandy, I am deeply sorry for the loss of your husband. He was a wonderful man. May the precious little life you carry inside of you sustain you now and give you solace in the months ahead...and of course, your two beautiful "little Mikes". He will always be with you in all of them. I pray God will give you and Mike's family, His comfort and peace.

Coolbaugh Family - our deepest sympathy and prayers are with you. Anthony played with Mike in Round Rock in 2003 and 2004...in fact, he still talked to him off and on...the last time they talked Anthony was excited because he said Mike was going back to school to get his degree...he said how tough that must be - being out of school for so long and now with kids/family. He was proud of him.
I met Mandy one time at a Round Rock/San Antonio game in San Antonio - I believe she was pregnant at the time - I too was pregnant...Mandy - if you ever need to talk - I don't know what you are going through right now being pregnant and losing your husband, but my brother was killed on his motorcycle in May of '05...so I know the grieving process - if you ever need to grieve with someone - please get in touch with me.
We have been thinking and grieving with you for the loss of your husband. May God's love and peace surround you during this trying time.
All our love,
Jessica & Anthony Acevedo

As a broadcaster in the Texas League and in professional baseball, I am obviously devastated by the horrible loss of a great baseball man. My thoughts and prayers go out to Mike's immediate family and the rest of the Coolbaugh family, including Mike's brother, Scott himself. I've known Scott on and off for 6 years and I always found him to be a class individual and of course, we all feel terrible for what happened. My thoughts also go out to Tino Sanchez and his family. We all feel terrible for him for what he is going through and what had happened. Very sad day for baseball. I wish the Coolbaugh and Sanchez families nothing but peace, comfort, and good will as they deal with this difficult and horrible time. Thank you, Mike, for all you have done in this game and in life in general and may you rest in peace. We will all miss you!

To the Coolbaugh Family, all our love and prayers are with you during this sad time. We will always cherish the short time we got to spend with you and Mike here in Round Rock. Mandy and boys,
Mike will always be remembered as a part of the Express family. His years in Round Rock were great as we enjoyed watching him play and getting to know your family. Mike's passion for the game will live on through the boys as I know they always loved watching their daddy on the field. I can't remember a time when I saw them at the game without their gloves.
Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Mike's family, friends, and fans. Having had the opportunity to talk with Mike on a couple of occasions while he was at Round Rock was truly a blessing. More of today's athletes should take a lesson from the way that this man lived his life, on and off the field. He will always be remembered.

My husband met Mike on the field after an Express game. We always enjoyed his enthusiasm for baseball, and my heart just sank when his
chances for a September call-up were shattered along with his wrist in August of '05. I've combed milb.com for Mike Coolbaugh news since Spring Training started. I just can't believe he's gone. RIP Mike. God bless his wife and those two little boys!
