1965 - 2012
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mike Matera on May 17th, 2012 after lengthy battle with cancer. Beloved son of Anna and Giovanni Matera, wonderful and loving husband to Gina Pesce, loving father to Gianni, Matteo and Brianna. Loving brother to Enzo and Marisa as well to his brother in-law Joe, Josie, Ruggiero and Manon all nieces and nephews. He will also be sadly missed by his in-laws Raffaella and Rocco Pesce. He will forever be remembered for his deep sense of humanity, kindness, and respect towards his friends and co-workers and above all for the love of hockey. Mike was most happy when sitting down with family and friends and enjoying the simple pleasure life had to offer. Funeral service will be held at Urgel Bourgie 6700 Beaubien est. Montreal, Quebec Sunday 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Mass will be held at Mont-Carmel in St. Leonard at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

Hello, I grew up in Montreal and went to LaSalle College. I moved to europe many years ago and have lost contact with friends. Today while looking through the internet I came across Mike's obituary. I was so saddened, we were a great group of friends and he always made everyone laugh. I know many years have passed but please accept my belated deepest condolences. You have three wonderful children. God bless you all.

To you my Love, I miss you so. Nothing is the same without you. Your warm smile and your wonderful touch. The sadness of lossing you is not getting better. You were the best Father a child can ask for. You thought them everything. I wish our 3 kids become the Man you are and with that, they will go far in life. We shared wonderful years and had so much fun but God call you home to his son. We just can't believe it ended this way; there was so many things we wanted to say. It's too late for that now, it will just have to wait until the day that we see you at the heavenly gate. May your soul rest well, my beloved brother-in-law but the day is not over because we shall share our memories. We never cried so many tears for your tragic death has left a big hole but we will try not to worry for your now a free soul. I pray for your soft journeys, that you always get what you need and your that souls at peace. So when times are great and happy as such, we will think of you Mike, we will miss you so much. So goodbye for now, dear brother in law, we have not one regret; for you were part of our lives that we will never forget.
To my wonderful brother-in-law who we miss so much! You left us too early, I remember the great times we had as a family. He loved talking about hockey and cooking, Mike loved to cook and I loved eating his food. Thanks Mike for giving me the privilege to know you and just letting me into your life.
