When you moved away, it left a big hole in the community.

Sue-
Our deepest sympathy to you and your family for the grievous loss of a wonderful human being. Mike was a devoted family man who doted on his grandkids. And he was a friend whom we looked forward to seeing in the schoolyard while waiting for the little ones. We will miss him.

I first met Mike in 1993 when I worked at the NRC, and some of my work was being added to a patent application that Mike had drafted. Mike came out to our labs and sat down with me to extract the necessary details. He then agreed to have a beer with me, so that I could learn about the world of patent agency. After leaving the NRC I worked on contract with Environment Canada for two years before luckily (for me) bumping into Mike at a folk concert in March 1996, where he remembered me and said his firm was looking for a chemical patent agent trainee. Within a month of that chance meeting I had been hired at S&B/F&Co., and worked for the most part under Mike's supervision. He was a great teacher and 22 years later I am still heavily influenced by Mike's excellent approach to the trade. Mike's wit and patience were both in high demand as I prepared hundreds of documents in draft for his review over four and a half years. I'm sorry we lost touch after I left S&B/F&Co. My sincerest condolences to all of his family.

Sue and family,
Our condolences on the passing of Mike, a good buddy, undeservedly taken far too soon. A founding member of the Wednesday Lunch Group, there will be a big gap where he used to sit and regale us.

Lovely memories of time spent together in the UK and Canada. Mike and Alan went way back to Leeds University in the mid 60s and had lots of common interests. No more trials for either of them now; probably hiking a trail somewhere! Loving thoughts to you all. Lyn Wilson South Wales

The world is a better place for having Mike here with us for all those many years. He was the model English gentleman, polite, mannerly, caring, well studied and travelled and yet had the utmost time and patience for his grandchildren and to share his vast knowledge with them. He will be sorely missed by friends and family alike.

Sue and Family,
I only learned that Mike was sick a short while ago. Mike was such a gentle soul who was always patient with my brashness. His passing has hit me very hard; I can't even imagine what you all are going through. My thoughts and prayers are with you as I hope you find peace from knowing that 'his life was a life well lived'.
Love,
