Mildred Whited

Mildred Smith Whited HONAKER, Va. Mrs. Mildred Smith Whited, age 92, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2010, in a Johnson City, Tennessee hospital. Born Jan. 3, 1918, in Honaker, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Minnie Crawford Smith. A lifelong resident of the Honaker area, she was a graduate of Honaker High School. She was a member of the Honaker United Methodist Church for over 70 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Nancy Smith Thomas, Stella Smith Dye, and Laura Smith; and son-in-law, Jack Thomas. In her generation, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors include her husband of 74 years, R.J. Whited of the home; one daughter, Nancy Whited Thomas of Atlanta; one son, Robert E. Whited, M.D. and wife, Sharon of St. Simmons, Ga.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Honaker First United Methodist Church with Pastor Clyde Hester officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Memorial Cemetery at Lebanon, Va. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour.
