Dear Dr. Manes,
I have thought of you often over the years. I remember a discussion that I had with you and your sweet daughter outside your inner office. It was in 1970. Thank you for you kindness and thank you for being my physical chemistry professor. R.I.P.
Loving regards,
Bill Halchin

Carol: My deepest sympathies to you; Milt will be missed. I only just came across this obit, when I searched Milt's name, in reference to his joyous recounting of his chance encounter with Bill Gaines, (of Mad Magazine) among my favorite recollections of Milt and Ed's time in the Kent Chem Dept. My deepest sympathy to the family in your loss. I am so glad that I had the privilege of meeting Mr. M in the last few months. We would walk the hall and he would recite poetry or sing all four stanzas of poem or song that he learned in fifth grade. He was a pleasure to be with and I know that you will miss him dearly. Take comfort in your memories. Anna Porter

Carol--I am so sorry I missed the obit notice last week as I would have called immediately. My deepest sympathies to you and the whole family. It is very sad to lose so many great friends of ours, particularly from the Bureau of Mines. It is also sad to realize how we have strayed from each other when we used to be so close.

We lived across the street in Kent from the Manes family from 1970 till Milt's retirement and subsequent move to Pittsburgh. On my retirement from the KSU physics dept we moved to Atlanta in 1995 and in 2010 to Jerusalem. We have fond memories of Milt and his great sense of humor and send our condolences and affection to Carol and to Eleanor, whom we did know, and to Stephen, of whom he was proud.
