Mina Hanssen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 13, 2024.
Peoria - Mina, the worlds best planner and organizer has escaped.

Mina Nadine Hanssen passed away peacefully on a bright and sunny afternoon on March 22, 2024 in her Arizona home.

Her Journey began on July 29, 1963 at a Naval Hospital in Oakland, California. Tenacity and a drive for success became a cornerstone of her life. Accepting failure was not an option; there was always a work around.

Mina's professional journey was one of a lifelong learner. She achieved an MBA, SPHR as well as many credentials in safety, risk management, and business. Her top positions were Director of Risk Management (AOI), Business Services Director (Marion County) and Business Services Director (City of Salem). She will be remembered for creating positive change in the places she touched.

In her personal journey, Mina was married 28 years, raised three successful men, as well as experienced many memorable places in Italy, Greece, Cuba, Australia, Indonesia; to name a few.

After being diagnosed in November 2020 with terminal brain cancer, Mina was determined to be in the top 5% of cancer survivors; she was. She loved the phrase "someday is today" and lived every moment to the fullest.

Quilting was her passion, creating more than 10 quilts during her cancer battle. Mina's quote" a quilt is a warm hug across space and time".

She leaves behind her husband Kevin Hanssen, sons Justin Azevedo, Paul Azevedo, Lucas Hanssen, 8 Azevedo granddaughters: Alice, Emma, Claire, Felicity, Josephine, Gianna, Eleanor, and Anastasia, mother Mary Thompson, aunt Nina Merklin, siblings Amber lougheed and Philip Thompson.

Her love for family and friends permeates our heart and soul and will never be forgotten.

A memorial service will be held at Christ the Good Shepard Lutheran Church on May 18, 2024 at 10:00 am.
