In Remembrance Of A Life Well Loved
“But now he desires a better, that is, a heavenly country.
Therefore God is not ashamed to be called his God,
For He has prepared a city for him.” -Hebrews 11:16
Minister Calvin Johnson, Jr. entered unto the Joy of the Lord on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at 7:03 a.m. in Conway, SC.
Minister Johnson was born on February 11, 1966 to the marital union of Mr. Calvin Johnson, Sr. and Mrs. Bernice Turner Johnson in New York City, New York. His parents and four siblings, Wilma L. Singletary, Robert Canteen, Jr., Verna Doctor, and Frank Johnson all preceded him in death.
For 25 years, Calvin was united in marriage to Miss Sheral Patterson. This union was blessed with the births and rearing of four children. One beloved son, Dominique Olajuwon Patterson, greets him in eternity.
Calvin attended Johnsonville High School and continued his education in later years in the landscaping program at Horry-Georgetown Technical College.
He was a lover of all things outdoors and was a Crew Leader with the City of Myrtle Beach Parks and Recreation Department until his health would no longer allow him to work.
Above all, Calvin was a lover of Christ. At an early age he joined Jerusalem A.M.E. Church. He accepted the call to ministry in 2011 and served as Associate Minister at St. Mary’s Holiness Church.
While our hearts are heavy, we regard today as a miracle. For 25 years, Minister Johnson valiantly battled recurring instances of cancer. He was given up by his doctors many times and defied all medical odds. Just a few months ago, he told his son that in the event of his passing, he wants it to be made known to all that he fought until his eyes closed. His children bore witness to this truth as he fought until his very last breath. We are very proud of him.
Left to cherish many fond memories are his four loving and devoted children, Shereese Johnson of Jacksonville, NC, Brandon Patterson of Portage, IN, Joshua Raheem Johnson of New Orleans, LA, and Ralphael Woodberry of Marion, SC; his adored grandchildren, Brandi Patterson of Nesmith, SC, Malachi Patterson of Florence, SC, Noah Robinson of Jacksonville, NC, Lauren Holmes of Georgetown, SC, Brielle Patterson of Portage, IN; his loving and devoted companion, Tatanshia “Tansy” Parker of Conway, SC; his siblings, Jennie Mae Canteen of Plant City, FL, Judy (Leroy) Brown of Camden, SC, Matthew Canteen of Lakeland, FL, Amanda Johnson of Conway, SC, Shirley (Fernando) McElveen of Lake City, SC, Rosa Lee Hewitt of Johnsonville, SC; Rachel Hewitt of Conway, SC, Susie (Frankie) White of Georgetown, SC, Hoyt Lee Hewitt of Johnsonville, SC, Marion Johnson of Newark, NJ, Keith Johnson of New York, New York; a sister-in-law, Pearl Canteen of Kannapolis, NC; a brother-in-law, Wardell (Sabrina) Patterson, Jr. of Georgetown, SC; an innumerable amount of nieces and nephews, including two very special nephew, Jonathan “Man” Hewitt of Greenville, SC, and Peter Washington of Columbia, SC; his best friend, Wayne Hillard of Bucksport, SC; a neighbor who went above and beyond the call of community, Mary Ann Calloway of Conway, SC; and a host of other relatives and friends who will sorely miss him.
