Miriam Caro Cullis, 72, passed away on August 15, 2025, in Jefferson, South Carolina.

Born on July 7, 1953, in Manhattan, New York, Miriam was the daughter of the late Pedro and Delia (Lopez) Caro. Her family moved to Meriden, Connecticut in 1964. She attended Jefferson Middle School in Meriden during the late 1960s and graduated from Orville H. Platt High School in 1971. She went on to pursue higher education at Central Connecticut State College (now a university) and also attended Barbizon Modeling School in the New Haven area at that time.

In 1969, Miriam was coronated Miss Latin American Queen by the Latin American Society which was then headquartered at 399 South Colony Street, Meriden.

She was also an executive secretary at the Meriden Housing Authority - still located at 22 Church Street in Meriden.

She moved to Southington, CT in 1977, Sandy Hook, CT in1991, Spofford, NH in 1993, and finally to South Carolina in 2003.

Miriam brought warmth and vibrancy into every space she entered. Her love for life was evident in the radiant colors of her stained glass artwork and the thoughtful touches she added to her home. Her creativity extended beyond art-she had a gift for making others feel seen and cherished through the heartfelt cards and care packages she sent to friends and loved ones.

A devoted spiritual seeker, Miriam was a passionate lover of God and a longtime member of ECKANKAR. She dedicated herself wholeheartedly to teaching and facilitating ECK programs, especially throughout the region from South Carolina. Her commitment to spiritual service touched many lives and reflected her deep sense of purpose.

Miriam is survived by her husband of 34 years, Doug Cullis; her stepson, Adam Cullis; and his granddaughter Shaylin. She also leaves behind her beloved siblings: Peter Caro (Jeannette), Freddie Caro (Sandra), and Gilbert Caro (Lisa); eight nieces and nephews; and her cherished cat family.

She was predeceased by her half-sister, Carmen Morales (Yayi) in 1992.

Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home (www.mrcfuneralhome.com) of Chesterfield, SC is serving the Cullis Family.

Miriam's legacy lives on through the beauty she created, the kindness she shared, and the spiritual light she offered to those around her. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
