Miriam Steele Obituary
Portsmouth - - Miriam Brauer Steele, 78, died January 27, 2016. She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard Marion Steele; son, Paul Haywood; and daughter, Susan C. Haywood. Miriam was a retired realtor and active in the V.F.W. since 2002. Survivors include her son, Gary Haywood and wife Carla of Prospect, VA; six grandchildren, Mindi H. Kruschwitz, Amanda H. Patrick, Justin R. Haywood, Laura H. Torrence, Megan S. Wheeler, and Steven S. Stolarik, all of Appomattox County; nine great-grandchildren; and longtime friend and caregiver, Shannon D. Anderson.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 30, at 11 AM for Miriam and her daughter Susan in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home the hour before the service. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com

You and Mom being gone still seems unreal all these years later. I look at your urn and remember all the times we were over there and how you used to make black walnut cookies. Life just hasn´t been the same. You two were truly the best life had to offer anyone who came in contact with you. Love you so much. Oh and little man is a ginger, always thought you´d love that.

What am I to do? I miss you, but seeing the pain in your texts to people and emails... You were such a strong woman. I miss you and am glad your not hurting God will not take back what's been done I just don't know how to go on, you were always my shoulder to cry on, you spoke swiftly to aid me in my times of troubles. Remembering all our summers and our conversations especially my 21st birthday one ;) Gosh you are missed beyond all reasoning. I love you, I miss you and I'll always need you. Maybe one day ill understand but until then we will never forget your impact on us, you are the definition of Grandmother and one day I hope to be as strong and happy as you were. Give aunt Courtney and Ralphy hugs and from time to time send me that butterfly so we can send a message to heaven .

Grangran, words couldn't explain how much I miss you. Since mom passed away when I needed answers or advice I would call you. Now so often I am driving and say to myself well I'll call... And then I think well the 2 people I could always count on I can't call anymore. I wish I could have seen you one more time. I am glad you aren't suffering anymore and your not lonely at all now. Thank you for all the memories we shared. Nothing is more priceless then memories with you and mom. I love you Grangran, and we all miss you.
