Miriam E. West

MIRIAM E. WEST, 91, of Markle, formerly of Huntington, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2008, 3:35 p.m., at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. She was born on March 30, 1917, in Huntington County, a daughter of Wilfred P. and Nellie (Robrock) Felton. A 1935 graduate of Union Township High School in Huntington County, she enjoyed playing basketball at the Huntington YMCA League in the late 1930's and 1940's. She had worked at Memcor in Huntington for 11 years, retiring in 1982. She was very artistic and creative. She also enjoyed sewing, playing the piano and organ, as well as writing poetry. She was also a member of the Markle Church of Christ. She was united in marriage to H. Russell West on Aug. 2, 1940, in North Vernon, Ind.; he preceded her in death on Aug. 2, 1974. Surviving are two sons, Jerry and wife, Jeannie West of Grain Valley, Mo., and Dan and wife, Brenda West of The Villages, Fla.; daughter, Jill and husband, Claude Sparks of Fort Wayne; sister, Marjorie Gardner of Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers; and one sister. Service is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Myers Funeral Home, Markle Chapel, 415 N. Lee Street, Markle, with visitation two hours prior.
