MUNCIE — Pfc. Mitchell "Mitch" Hill Raper, 20, passed away unexpectedly Dec. 18, 2009.
Mitch was born June 12, 1989, in Muncie, to Michael L. Raper and Kimberly J. (Hill) Raper.
He graduated from Yorktown High School in 2008. He was an All State Football player and was awarded the Griddy's All State award. He also wrestled, played soccer and ran track. He was an avid water skier, rode motorcycles and four wheelers competitively and enjoyed riding snow mobiles.
Mitch was a member of the Indiana National Guard and was recently employed as a recruiting assistant. He also worked part-time for the Burke family as a heavy equipment operator and recovery agent.
Mitch was happiest when he was surrounded by family and friends. He was always caring, polite and respectful to others, and will be remembered as always having a smile on his face.
He was survived by his father, Mike Raper; fiancee of Melody Rost of Yorktown; his mother, Kimberly J. (Hill) Raper of Richmond; brother, Gabriel Hill Raper of Muncie; maternal grandparents, Richard and Joyce Hill of Greenville, Ohio, and paternal grandparents, Lawrence "Jack" and Judy Raper of Anderson. Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Yorktown United Methodist Church, with Rev Steve Loft officiating.
Friends may call Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Gant Funeral Home, 2215 S. Broadway, Yorktown, and one hour prior to the Tuesday service at the church.
Mitch had a special fondness for all animals; therefore, the family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to the ARF Foundation or to the Muncie Humane Shelter.

Mike, Kim, and Gabe, I am saddened to learn of Mitch's passing. Mitch was always so positive and helpful to everyone, students and teachers. I feel blessed to have had him in my fourth grade class; and, will always remember Mitch and his wonderful spirit. I will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers.
