Mitzi was the first celebrity I ever saw in person. She was invited to Hampton, Virginia, to head up a parade celebrating the area's seafood industry. I believe the year was 1950. At the time, she was appearing in the Betty Grable movie, My Blue Heaven.

For me, seeing Mitzi at the Professional Dancers Society events at the Beverly Hilton Hotel was the highlight of the day for me. Mitzi was kind & generous with her time as President of PDS. Honorees were some of the giants & legends of the cinema. It was heartbreaking when the PDS Honors were discontinued & I knew I'd probably never see many of the lovely friends & beautiful people whose company I was honored to enjoy for many years. Mitzi's smile lit up a whole room. She was always the Belle of the Ball. And some of her jokes were actually funny. I once heard a saying I've always found both touching and amusing: "Old dancers never die, they just step away."
