Mona WEBBER Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix from Sep. 21 to Sep. 23, 2016.

Mona Marie Webber (née Haslett)
Mona passed away September 14, 2016 with her daughters Jennifer, Jill, and Joan beside her. She was also blessed to hear the voice of her granddaughter Sarah.
Mona's greatest joy in life came from her daughters and granddaughter. She loved to be surrounded by her girls alongside her sons-in-law Jonathan, Robert, and Jason for lively, humorous and heartfelt discussions.
Mona was born on February 11, 1936 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. After graduating as a nurse from the University of Saskatchewan in 1957, she worked at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon before joining the Calgary General Hospital to work in neurosurgery. She also worked at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, the Grey Nuns Hospital in Regina, and the Regina General Hospital.
She met her future husband, John (Jack) Charles Webber, in Montreal when he was pursuing his path to complete a Ph.D. in theoretical physics. He appreciated her intelligence and they shared a great sense of humour. In 1961, they married in Ottawa where he continued his studies while she worked at the National Research Council and weekend night shifts at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. Mona's husband Jack died in 1973. To avoid the hardship of late nursing shifts on her daughters, she soon settled into a new career at the Mendel Art Gallery in Saskatoon.
As a single mother of three young girls (then aged five, eight, and nine), Mona overcame challenges that might have easily overwhelmed others. She did so with grace, always placing the interests of her daughters above her own, while maintaining unwavering optimism and a cheery nature. In the last eight years of her life, Mona struggled with serious, debilitating illness. Despite this, Mona always seemed to be the happiest person in the room.
Mona's resilience and joy of life will always give her family strength and the comforting belief that miracles are possible.
She is survived by her daughters Jennifer Webber Forrest (Jonathan Forrest), Jill Webber Hrabinsky (Robert Hrabinsky), Joan Webber (Jason Proctor), sister Valerie Turner (Norm), granddaughter Sarah Hrabinsky, and step-grandson Dylan Forrest. She was predeceased by her husband John (Jack) Charles Webber, mother Josephine (Sahli) Haslett, father Frederick Haslett, brother Arthur Haslett (Sylvia), and sister Helen Heidt (Robert).
A funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. on September 24 at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 301 Machleary Street, Nanaimo, BC. If you wish to make a donation, Mona supported the Canadian Red Cross Society, was a member of St. Peter's Parish, and received care at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Arrangements by First Memorial, Nanaimo, BC.

Jennifer,Joan,Jill & Families,
My thoughts & prayers are with you at this difficult time. May all the wonderful memories, the love you shared and the love of family and friends help you through the days ahead. We shared many years of bridge and she was an intelligent lady who showed us truly what family was as she raised her three daughters. You , in turn, returned that love & devotion when she became ill. You made her last years very happy. May She now Rest in God's Care!Love, Ruth

Lovely obituary. Will miss Mona's little chuckle when she talked. Even with her years of illness she found joy, dignity, she truly was a roll model in aging gracefully.. Always positive, she loved her daughters and she loved cocktail hour. I will toast to Mona Saturday for sure. Big group hug to you sisters. Love Lynn from Saskatoon

Jill - I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. Although your hearts are surely broken and the hurt of losing her is unbearable, know that she is no longer in pain. You are very fortunate to have been by her bedside and that she was at peace hearing the voices of those she loved most as she passed. Francine Gauthier
