Monica Fikes

Monica Yvonne Fikes, 77, passed away July 31st, 2015 in Destin, Florida. Born in El Paso Texas, she graduated from Ysleta High School 1955 and was a member of the Ysleta drum corp. Monica worked for and retired from the Federal Reserve Bank after 20 years of loyal service. She loved family gatherings and spending time with them; laughing, and playing games was her idea of a good time. With her husband after retirement, they purchased a motor home and traveled the country. They then made their home close to their children and grandchildren living both in Mississippi and Florida. Two of her favorite past times were playing Bingo and pulling the handle of a slot machine. Monica is survived by her beloved son, Richard (Patsy) Fikes, of Puerto la Cruz, Venezuela; daughter, Tracee Gord (Jim Turnpaugh), of Destin, Florida; grandchildren, Travis (Jordan) Fikes, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Tyler Fikes, of El Paso, Texas and Hannah Gord, of Destin, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Rosary Tafoya Brown; husband, Alfred Fikes; brothers, Charles and Tom Brown; sisters, Rosemarie Uribe and Barbara Wasiewski. A Visitation will be held at McLaughlin Mortuary, 17 Chestnut Ave SE, Ft Walton Beach, Florida 32548 Tuesday, August 4th, 2015 at 10:00 followed by a Service at 11:00 am officiated by Pastor Barry Carpenter. Burial will immediately follow at Destin Memorial Cemetery.
