It's been a year now and everyday it still doesn't seem real to me, that my sister is gone. I want all of you to know how very comforting your words here and at her funeral were to all of us, her family. She was very special to us and by what you wrote and said she was very special to all of you. Thank you for your kindness and sharing your lives with her...she talked about many of you to us and really liked the people she was working with...told me it was the best bunch of people she had worked with...you all meant great deal to her. Take care...suzi

Joelle, It's almost a year since I've lost the best friend and adopted sister that anyone could have. I have sat down many a time to write in her book and couldn't see what I was typing due to the tears that always come. Katie has always been a force to be reckoned with, and a champion of the underdog. Her family was always front and center in her life, whether you saw it that way or not. She was proud, loving, smart, loyal, fair, fun, and honest (sometimes brutally so!). She believed in herself, and let you know how she felt about things. Katie would debate an issue without ever being disrespectful of the other persons' feelings or beliefs. Katie invited me and my family into her life back in 1985, when I applied for a bookkeeper position. She hired me during the interview and then had me follow her to "the property" to show me where I was going to work. Little did I know that geese were the best alarm system you could have for your home! Since then, we have had many good times, including making pork chop dinners for breakfast, ice cream socials in my hospital room, going to yard and estate sales, walking a breakline in the woods (when there was a fire in the area, I might add!), roller-skating, taking us to Disney and metal detecting on the beaches here in Vero Beach. I miss her smile, her laughter, her "Kati-isms" - sayings that she just never said quite right, for example: "Don't call the pot black while sitting in a kettle on the stove!" and "That's opening a can of beans with worms!" We would laugh all day over stuff like that, especially when she took the time to try to explain it. At times it made it hard to work! She taught me the importance of a power nap.....she would just get up from the desk and lie down right there and then, whether in the office or in her van! In 15 to 30 minutes, she was fully recharged and ready to roll. She taught me that everyone is a gift unto themselves and that we should all treat ourselves as such. She visited us often, though not often enough, and was making plans to move over this way. She always made sure the my husband, Buddy, was included in our plans. We were like the 3 musketeers, taking the world by storm. She will always be in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. I talk to her all the time, just as when she was here, and every once in a while, I have the feeling that I got the answer I was looking for. Thank you Katie for being in our lives, and for continuing to shower your love and friendship on us. Remember I love you, as does Buddy. Til we meet again.

Mi amiga, where do I start? I will never forget your unforgetable, joyful laugh, and the many shades of red that went along with it. You had the courage of a lion, and the biggest heart of anyone I have ever known. You were the voice of many that had no voice, you fought for causes that weren't popular, just because you knew it was the right thing to do. As I sit here writting this, my eyes are filled with tears missing you and knowing that this world is going to miss out on so much that you offered. But I know that you are in a better place, reunited with loved ones and probably snacking on some good Dove's Chocolate Ice Cream.
I will never forget you and the inspiration you gave me.

Katie will be missed dearly. I met Katie about 13 yrs. ago. She has always been a good friend. She was very outspoken, caring and thoughtful. My Grandmother passed away a few months ago and Katie was the only one that gave me a card. Katie, sleep on and take your rest,we all love you but God loves you best. We will see you again someday, look for us, your friends, along the Glory way. Love You Katie, Always and Forever!

Katie was more than a friend to me. She was like a big sister; a confidant and teacher. Katie's always offer her shoulder for me to cry, and lean on when I needed someone to talk with. I can talk to Katie about everything and not to worry that it will be known to everyone.I respect Katie because she respected herself.
I miss Katie very much! Tuesday thru Friday morning, we see each other at the parking lot and we walked into the wardrobe for her to change in to her security costume.
Katie and I get posted together every morning, and get picked up at the end of our shift. Every afternoon Katie, Frances Yolette and myself walked with her to the wardrobe, talked and laughed while she changed and we clocked out, and walked out together everyday. This was our routine with our Katie. I miss her and loved her as a sister.I miss seing her face turning red when she laughed or when she's upset.Katie will be missed by so many people.

Katie stayed with me when she worked overtime; I had FINALLY got her to stay other nights even if she didn't work overtime. I enjoyed her company so much. I loved being with Katie.

I have known Katie since just after she came to Walt Disney World. The first time I saw her She was working Center 1 on swing shift, she had long hair and a great smile. When she worked in the Comm Center we became friends. She eventually worked as a Rover in the Resorts and later as RSO. Recently she was a SOC on a temporary basis for the Resort team. She was efficient and smart.
Katie was fun to talk too, and a wonderful person. She had a quick wit and would make you laugh. We discussed problems that we had and shared view points. She always listened and she had great insight. She had a wonderful smile. We enjoyed discussions about the property she owned. She truly loved Florida and the back country. She loved living there. In one of the last conversations we had she described how civilization was moving in on her. She confided to me some plans that she had about an area near Vero Beach.
Katie will always be part of the Security legend that winds around and through this place. Katie I will always think of you. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. I am a better person for having known you.

I met Katie her first day in Security 1989. I knew at that time she was a person who followed a beat to a different drum, much like myself. Over the years we followed the same paths in security. We had alot of good days, some not, but we always came back even stronger than ever. Katie was like a mother to most, a sister to some but always a friend no matter what. Katie you will be missed very much by all of us. To me you are a friend,a sister and I miss you. you are truly loved.

I worked with Katie for several years. We competed for overtime when it was available. We shared many activities in our security department from the Pargo Parade to Holiday dinners. She was always one of the first to volunteer for special events. Katie shared an interest in my hobby of metal detecting and liked hearing about my finds and stories. I sent a honor tree with hopes it will be planted. Although she has passed away, the flowers will whither away but the tree will grow and give comfort to those who visit her final resting place and it will represent what her life stood for.
Never again will I see her in her RAV4 on West Colonial Drive or SR535 as we passed each other during our drive to work. I will always miss Katie. My condolences to her family members.
