Missionary Evangelist Monique Yvette Whiting, affectionately known as “Nikki,” was born July 5, 1969, to JW and Mozell Whiting. A native of Lexington, Kentucky, she was educated in the Fayette County Public School system, graduating from Tates Creek High School in 1987. She later attended Lexington Community College. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by family to be with her Heavenly Father on April 4th, 2023.
Monique was a caring individual who greeted you with a smile and a “Praise Jesus,” loving her family and friends unconditionally. She dedicated her life to church and ministry, including her own “Putting on Your Crown” ministry. Monique also worked for Lexington Housing Authority.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in Jesus’s Name under the leadership of the late Bishop A.D. Bates at Breakthrough Pentecostal Power Church. At Breakthrough, she faithfully served in many auxiliaries, such as: Sunday School teacher, Youth President, Choir Director, Church Announcer, and Finance Officer. She was a long-standing beacon for Tuesday Night Prayer Service, annual youth services, Christmas fellowship, Vacation Bible School, and the Easter program for all youth. Within the Pentecostal Power Churches organization, Monique served in the capacity of the National Secretary for the Women’s Department, Youth Department, and Assistant Secretary for the National Music Department. Monique was God-led, a lover of youth of all ages, and a blessing to all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by grandparents Mattie Patton and Lottie (James) Whiting; aunts: Laura Mitchell, Helen Hughes, Minnie McGuirt, Sarah Taylor, Emma Clay, Odell Wortham, Donna Wortham; LV, Virginia, Barbara, and Janette Whiting; uncles: William Hughes, Earl Hughes, Jerry Patton, Michael Patton, JT Clay, and James “JP” Whiting.
To cherish many memories, Monique leaves her loving and caring parents JW and Mozell Whiting; three brothers: Juan Wortham, Toryan (Renee) Whiting, Jayman “JJ” Whiting; two aunts Martha (James) Thompson and Flora (Michael Sr.) Owens; two uncles: Theatrice “TD” (Janet) Wortham and Bennie Wortham; six nieces: Anita, Earrika, Destiny, Jeviell, Jamin, Montiarra; six nephews: Justin, Demetric, Trayvon, Seiku, Juan, Jamarion; and godchildren including Xavier Bledsoe, Earl “Alex” Duncan, Eugene Mitchell, and Zahara “ZahZah,” as well as a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, saints, and friends.
