Monroe Haga

MARION, Va. – Monroe Lee "Sonny" Haga, age 74, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2009, at his home in Marion. He was born in Kingsport, Tenn., on Dec. 14, 1934, to the late James Herman Haga Sr. and Tina Mae Haga. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dot Winebarger and husband Larry. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and had been employed at Virginia House Furniture. He attended Freedom Tabernacle Baptist Church. Survivors include his loving wife, Mattie Levitt Haga; one stepson, Marcus Moore and wife Reva, Saltville, Va.; his stepdaughters, Vicki Oakes and husband Randy, Abingdon, Va., Teresa Anderson and husband Gary, Atkins, Va., Marsha Fowler and husband Joe David, Marion, and Becky Bowman and husband Roger, Saltville; his grandchildren, Derek and Tera Bowman, Daiquiri Anderson, Danielle, Kelsey and Shea Oakes, Jackie Carter and Ashley Fowler; his great-grandchildren, Jordan Woods and Aiden Oakes; one brother, Herman Haga Jr. and wife Marie, North Carolina; his sisters, Margaret Johnson, Salem, Va., Jewell Blevins, Richmond, Va., and Charmie Blevins and husband Cliff, Marion; a special lifelong friend, Kermit Levitt; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2009, from the Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Mike Sage officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at Resurrection Gardens in Atkins, Va.
