Msgr. Tom was always a welcome guest in my parent's (Alfred and Lena Weinzapfel) home when he visited his relatives in St Philip, IN. He would fly his plane over the family farm so we would know to expect him soon. He always had wonderful stories to tell of life in Texas. We had the privilege of traveling with him to the Weinzaepflen/Weinzapfel reunion in Ungersheim, France. Family roots were so important to him. His care and concern for others showed in everything he did. Rest in peace...Msgr. Tom!!

I was thinking of you fondly today Monsignor. How many tens of thousands of children's lives you touched during your 65 years as a Priest. Baptisms, First Holy Communion, Confirmations, and weddings. You were always an important part of the spiritual health of our family and we are honored to have shared so many important events with you. You were a great comfort to my mother when our father passed away. For that I will always be greatful. May your reward in heaven be as beautiful as the gifts you bestowed on all of the children of St. Pius over all the years.

I thank God for the blessing of having known Msgr. Weinzapfel and benefited from his guidance for almost 60 years. He truly was a good shepherd to the people of our St. Pius x parish. It is amazing to think back on all of the innovative ways that he served his parish family and the Dallas Diocese. He certainly used all of the talents and abilities, that God gave him, in order to love and serve others. The "Love One Another" motto will always remind me of him.

My parents moved to Dallas in 1956 and "beat" Msgr Weinzapfel by 2 mths to St Pius X! Both of my older brothers and me are graduates of St Pius X where we "feared" his giving out report cards! I graduated from BLHS. I then graduated from Baylor University. In my first few months at Baylor, other parishioners would ask my parents "but Baylor is a Baptist school!" Well, lo and behold, on the same 8th floor of the freshman dormitory there, I befriended throughout college Julia Bright, then of Muentster, TX (Msgr's niece!). After that, my parents would leave Mass and Msgr would be outside and say "How are Julia and Julie?". That "quieted" many of my parents' parishioner friends! After many years, I have returned full circle and now live again in my childhood home helping my 84 yo mom who still attends daily Mass at St Pius X Church. A lot has changed, but my family "grew up" with Msgr Weinzapel and I am sure many of the values I hold today were learned from my parents' and my years at St. Plus X under Msgr Weinzapfel's blessed leadership.
Graciously,
Julie Taylor, MD (Dallas, TX)
(My sympathies to all the family, but a special one to Julia)

What a blessed long life and priesthood Msgr. Weinzapfel was gifted by our Lord! I'm so glad I got to see him from a distance this last September. I had the pleasure of getting to know him during my tenure working with Msgr. Leon Duesman at St. Francis in Frisco.
Lots of fun memories going on summer church family trips to Mexico with him, playing putt-putt and the funny, quirky things he would say and do. Rest in peace sweet man. You will be missed.

Monsignor was very special to me and my family. He will always hold a special place in my heart and I am a better person and a strong Catholic for having known him. I know that he is heaven looking down on all of us.

We had the pleasure of traveling with Msgr. Tom to Europe to attend extended family reunions. Family was important to him and he made that clear by attending multiple reunions in our home town of St. Philip, Indiana. We had the privilege of him presiding over the family masses, as well as simply spending time with our families here. He will be greatly missed.

Msgr. Weinzapfel was our priest when we first moved to Texas in the mid 70's. He welcomed us with open arms. He was so kind and caring to my brother-in-law, Fr. Joseph Rossi when he visited us while he was home from his missionary work. Msgr, you will truly be missed.

Msgr. Weinzapfel was our family priest for five generations. HE married us, buried us, administered the sacraments and consoled us in our darkest hours. We adored and respected him. May your family feel the love and support of the many people that are praying for your family. The Meara and Lucas Family.
