Morris Levis

1926-2011 LEVIS, Morris, P. Eng., 84, of Hallandale, Florida, formerly of Montreal and of Volos, Greece, passed away Jan. 20, 2011. Beloved husband of Doreen for 54 years, loving father of Victor (Reesa) and Larry (Elena), grandfather of Mitchell, Hannah, Brooke, Emily, Alex and Claire, and devoted uncle of Sal and Michael Levy. Pre-deceased by his siblings Menachem and Simone. A self-styled "Grecanam", Morris, the third child of Haim and Afroditi, lived the first third of his life in Greece, where he survived the Holocaust by hiding in the mountains and soon after helped ward off a Communist insurgency as a lieutenant-engineer in the Greek army. The second third of his life began by meeting Doreen as a new immigrant to Canada, where he quickly learned to use two more languages, started a family and became a successful structural engineer and Montreal real estate developer . The last long chapter of his life was as an American, living by the sea he loved so much and enjoying the company of friends and family, while remaining active in the community and in his profession. Strong but with a gentle soul, Morris was considered a special man by all who knew him.
