MORTON DeBROFF Obituary
Truly a great, respected, beloved man, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 10, 2012, a day before his 50th wedding anniversary. A Pittsburgh native, a childhood enthusiasm in international stamp collecting, led to his adulthood enthusiasm international travel. An expert in France, he was an expert in French gourmet food and wine. He was an expert on travel in America. He visited all regions and significant towns in the USA, especially New England, California, and the Northwest, and more than a dozen states. Each destination was thoroughly researched for years. He was well read in law and elsewhere. Everyday he read the New York Times from cover to cover. He enjoyed wry, dry senses of humor; like Mort Sahl, Bill Dana, Tom Lehrer, and Monty Python. He enjoyed good films, especially the finest film noir. He enjoyed good books; especially murder mysteries. He especially enjoyed Caribbean travel, starting in Haiti in the late 1950s. He was a great comfort and joy, and true friend to all of his law clients. An alum of Harvard Law Class of 1955, his professors were Louis Loess, who established the S.E.C.; Archibald Cox, the expert Litigator with the Supreme Court; and the Professor who inspired "The Paper Chase." Attorney DeBroff served his general practice and trial clients without cease from 1955 until 2011. Attorney DeBroff was an iconoclast. He will be missed. I just learned of the death of Morton my old mentor in the law. I clerked for him while I was in Law School in the late 1970s. He was always an inspiration to me . Indeed I modeled my law practice on his. He taught me so much. He especially instilled in me the necessity to be dogged and determined on behalf of every client especially the poor and weak. My family and I was friends of Mort since I was ten years old,He advised my parents that were born and raised in Larwenceville in the early fifties, as a child Iuse to wash his car and he took me under his wing and helped me thur life,always had time for me and alot of my dumb stories at no charge,We been out of touch for many years much to my dismae, but the world will [NEVER REPLACE A MAN LIKE MORTON} My deepest sympathy to the family that is still able to read this message.
