RIP Mowat. We had some memorable times back then in the sixties!! Almost too much excitement! Til we meet again, my friend.

For most of my 64 years Mowat was a close friend of my older brother. That relationship blessed me with the opportunity to know him at various stages of his life and to appreciate his extraordinary gifts for enjoying life and making people feel good through his genuine care for others and his very special sense of humour. Though I was just the younger brother of his friend, he always made me feel included and special, even if many years had passed between visits. Whether thinking of him in his always amusing and often outrageous teens and 20’s or as a thoughtful visitor to a fellow Heart Institute patient in his late 50’s, I’m struck by the pleasure I always derived from his company and the anticipation of his next appearance. He was a special and very dear person in my life and I’m saddened that I can never enjoy that same anticipation of his next visit.

I will never forget Mowat’s smile, his warmth and genuine love of people. He made us all feel important and with that ever present twinkle in his eye, he made us feel life was grand……what a gift! How lucky we were to know him.

We met Mowat when he and Jane lived on our daughter's street in Carp. Dog owners all, we remember fondly those early morning 'doggie walks' that usually ended with morning coffee in someone's backyard patio. Mowat was invariably the centre of attention; what a marvelous sense of humour!

To you Jane and the entire family... it was a great honour to witness the friendship and love you shared in each other's presence over the years. In the world of soulmates, you were both meant to be. May Mowat's laughter and hospitality dance with the angels that await him. The upper world has gained a good soul.
Peace,

Mowat was employer and good friend to Kathy and I from the early seventies until he moved back to Canada.
We worked for him at Mowats Restaurant 289a Kings Road, Chelsea London - a triumph of original design and a fun spot to eat good Canadian food which Mowat threw his heart and soul into opening - still there but now known as Buona Sera at the JAM (the "M" was for Mowat).
Well worth a visit, make sure you raise a glass for Mowat when you are there.
Our best wishes to all the family, I'm sure he was an amazing grandpa.

Mowat was a kind-hearted and gentle soul who loved his family and friends openly. He smiled often and cared for his dogs as though they were his children. I did not know Mowat for a long time, but I consider myself lucky to have known him at all. Rest in peace.
