Moya Brooks

Moya M. Brooks, MD, passed away peacefully on April 15th, 2022 at Baptist Health Lexington, with family by her side. She had metastatic breast cancer and was 57 years old.

Moya was born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Lexington, Kentucky, where she attended Christ the King School and Lexington Catholic High School. She returned to D.C. to attend college at Georgetown University, earning a degree in foreign service. Moya initially planned to pursue a career in international business, focusing on Japan. She held positions in consular services at the Embassy of Japan and in export promotion for the International Trade Administration of the United States Department of Commerce. Although she enjoyed this career path, Moya had a lifelong interest in the health sciences and decided in her late twenties to pursue an education and profession in medicine. Moya earned her medical degree and her residency in ophthalmology from the University of Kentucky. She completed a glaucoma fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis.

Moya is survived by her mother, Doris, and her daughter, Amanda, as well as her sister-in-law, Dina, and her niece and nephew, Chloe and Chase. She was preceded in death by her father, James H. Brooks, and her younger brother, Jim Jr.

Moya's family is eternally grateful for the support they have received and memories shared of her kindness, intelligence, humor, and strength. She will be dearly missed and forever loved.
