DANDO, Muriel Elizabeth April 12, 1916 - March 15, 2011 The family of Muriel Dando sadly announce her peaceful passing on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 with family by her side. Muriel was predeceased by her husband Les in 2008, infant daughter Leslie Diane and five siblings. Muriel will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her daughters, Sheila Weckerle (Vic), Susan Walton (Alan), and Beverley Watt (Eric). Muriel was a cherished Grandmother to Darren (Marcela), Janice (Derek), Jeffrey, Kevin and Stephanie and a Great Grandmother to Aliyah and Sidney. She will be dearly missed by lifelong friends Sybil and David Hunden. Muriel was born in Victoria and moved to Cumberland as a child where she met and married Les in 1940. After a short stay in Alberta in 1944 they moved to Vancouver to raise their family on Heather Street. Muriel was a very generous person and was always there to help others. Muriel always put her family, friends and neighbours before herself and the door to her home was always open. The family would like to especially thank Rowena for all the love and devotion she gave Muriel and Les over the past five years and to the parishioners of St. George's for their prayers, support and visits. Heartfelt thanks to Archie, Rachel and all the care aides at Pt. Grey Private Hospital who took such good care of Muriel. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 25th at 2:00 pm at St. Philip's Anglican Church at 3737 West 27th Avenue (west of Dunbar). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army.

I had the pleasure of working with Muriel at King George Secondary in the 1980's and will never forget the good times we shared helping the many ESL students. Muriel was a very special lady!

It is with great sadness that I learned of Muriel's passing. Gracious, beautiful, fun loving, thoughtful, kind, warm and genuinely sincere, always. Drinking tea and eating her delicious cookies overlooking Douglas Park enjoying the cherry blossoms is how I will remember our great times together. We had such fun going to the City Archives researching the history of the park and heading for lunch afterwards. My heart feels very heavy today but memories of our fun times together will crowd out the sorrow. To Susan, Sheila and Bev, and your families, our sincerest sympathy. She is truly missed.

I was very sorry to hear about the passing of Muriel who I had the pleasure of working with at King George Secondary over 25 years ago. At the time she assisted me with my Vietnamese refugee students accompanying us on two field trips to the Gulf Islands. She was a class act and was always very supportive of me.
