Myrna Royal Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 14 to Sep. 17, 2023.
Myrna Rose Hoy Royal

On August 24, Myrna passed peacefully in her sleep due to injuries she sustained from a fall at home.

Myrna was born in Fort Pierre, SD in 1935 and was the youngest of Solomon and Roberta Smith Hoy's six children. Roberta passed away while Myrna was still an infant and Solomon assumed the dual role of father and mother. Solomon remained completely devoted to his family for the remainder of his life and was forever Myrna's role model.

The Hoy family moved to Oregon in 1941 where Myrna graduated from Newberg High School. While she attended Willamette University, she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and worked part-time for Northwestern Mutual Insurance Company, where she met and fell in love with her future husband, Joel Francis "Bud" Royal.

Myrna and Bud were married for almost 40 years until Bud's death in 1996. The couple lived in Lake Oswego, OR for the first 12 years of their marriage where they had three children. They relocated the family to Lake Forest Park, Seattle in 1969. Myrna worked for decades as medical bookkeeper in several practices in Portland, Seattle and ultimately in Vancouver, WA.

Myrna was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her five siblings, brothers Bob, Dick, and Don Hoy and her sisters Harriett Hoy Sweeney and Judy Hoy Wolfe. She is survived by her three children, Roberta Carolyn Bentson-Royal, Joel Patrick (Debra) Royal, and Matthew Joel Royal as well as six grandchildren, twins Matthew Bernard and Michael Solomon, Joel Thomas and Aaron Joseph Bentson-Royal, Melissa Rudberg-Humphrey, and Victoria Kathleen Royal and Patrick Benjamin Royal.

A celebration of life service will be held on

September 24th @ 2PM at the Royal Oaks Country Club in Vancouver, WA. all who knew Myrna are welcome.
