i'm a wild seed again, let the wind carry me...
i've always thought these few words coalesce into one of the most hopeful, melancholy, profound and beautiful phrases i've ever come across in my life. they went through my mind when i heard of miss myrtle anderson passing away.
although i'm just a lifelong joni-mitchell-follower from hamburg, germany, and neither met joni in person (except at a wonderful concert in frankfurt's old opera house,) nor her mother or mr. anderson, please accept my heartfelt condolences.
myrtle anderson, who gave the world its greatest musical poet, must have been a very proud parent. god bless her...

Dear Joni and Bill,
I am so so sorry to hear about Aunty Myrt's passing. I spent today thinking about Grandma McKee and Dad and Lyall and Myrt - lots of good memories - prairie memories. I am so grateful for all the letters and phone calls over the years, and her great love of documenting the family history. I have one of her histories and I will treasure it always. My thoughts are with you - and lots of love.

dear Joni
My caring thoughts and sympathy to you all. joyful as we are at a life well-lived, it is still very hard to be separated. especially from moms I would think.
I am so glad I had a chance to meet your parents in Saskatoon, oh-so-long ago, at the behest of Don Freed. It was very special. Please remember me to your father with the corn-flower blue eyes.
all the very best,
Jane Siberry (now Issa)

Joan, I am sorry to learn of your mom's passing. No matter how old we are losing a parent is heartbreaking. Life takes us in many directions but our souls are still on the prairies of our youth. Brian Thurber, an old school chum from ABCI.

Uncle Bill, Joni and family,
We were so sorry to hear about Aunt Myrt's passing. It has been a hard year, as Ron and I both lost our mothers within this year. Aunt Myrt always did everything beautifully. I had a good talk with her just before Christmas and she was as warm and interested in everything as she always has been. She was so proud of everything Joni has accomplished. This is a big loss to the Anderson family.

I am truly sorry for the loss of Myrtle Anderson. I can only wish her family the best and hope they are remembering the good times and love they shared. My deepest condolences. May she RIP, wherever she may be (and I mean that as everyone believes something different as far as an afterlife goes). Hare Krishna.

Dearest Myrtle,
I've always wanted to thank you for being the mother you were to Joni, and through her work, thus, also like a "mama" to us all.
No matter if I never met you in person, I know you through the spirit of love and compassion. You wore your badge of courage silently on your soul and Joni just had to express it...and oh, she's such a beautiful daughter and a sister to all who allow her in. During this time that we shed our tears, because you will be so sorely missed, I shall continue to pray for your husband, daughter, grand daughter, great grandchildren, extended family members and all those you leave behind, for now. Your love is what's left of you now and that love shines all over for us all, Myrtle. Thank you, Molly McGee. I know you'll spruce Heaven up for us and stoke the flames of love and compassion just to keep us warm, even from up there, like you've always done. Good night, Myrtle...sleep in peace now, Bill and Joan's, little darling. Pray for us!

Joni and Mr. Anderson,
Condolences to you both on Mrs. Anderson's passing. She lives on in
your songs as a blessing for all to know her. Myrtle let you paint that mural on your wall, look where that led. Thanks for that.
May you find comfort in knowing she lives on through your art and music.
Sincerely yours,

Dearest Joni and Mr. Anderson,
I know of your loss as I am on the JMDL. I lost my mother to pancreatic cancer 8 years ago. I was 39 years old. On my 40th birthday, one of my childhood friends who also loved my mother happened to be in town from Georgia; I live in Arkansas. I had a large bag of my mother's shoes and was offering some to my friend, and as we were going through I found a purse in the bag. Inside the purse was the $100 bill my mother always carried, and when we found it, my friend and I both looked at each other and said, "happy birthday!"
Mothers never quit mothering us I firmly believe. It is the end of an era when they pass on, but in my experience, my mother's pattern still flows in me and in our children in ways I can never fully grasp. I vividly see my mother in my children, even though they are all boys.
Mr. Anderson, my heart goes out to you. Stay close to Joni. My dad and I do the same thing.
Love,
Laura

To Mr Anderson and Joni,
I never knew Myrtle and I've never met either of you. I wish I was able to help since Joni has helped me so often with her music. I think it highly unlikely either of you will ever see this but Im sure there are people all over the world sending you their love at this most difficult of times

To Bill & Joni
Our deepest sypathy to both of you. Myrt has been loved and respected by all the Anderson family. Aldea will never forget out last visit to Bill & Myrt's when Myrt took Aldea shopping in her Toyota. It gave aunt Myrt a chance to "loosen up the engine". Thanks, Aunt Myrt, for the memories.

To the entire Anderson family my deepest sympathy for your loss. I have loved Joni's music and it has made such a difference in my life. All that she is, has to have come from the two wonderful people who made her. I feel like I have lost a part of my own family. I did lose my oldest brother, my father, my next to oldest brother, and my best friend within the last year. May you find peace and comfort knowing so many of us have appreciated all the beauty of your family for so long and you will all live on in our hearts.
Love and Peace to you-

Joni said it best when she wrote "Papa brought home the sugar, Mama taught me the deeper meaning. "
I am eternally grateful for the treasure that Myrtle and Bill brought into this world on November 7, 1943.
G-d rest Myrtle's gentle soul.
Peace be unto her family and friends.
