EATON, Myrtle Irene (nee Hanson)
Myrtle Irene (Hanson) Eaton, 94, of La Crosse, WI, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 27, 2016 with her five children attending her. She was born in Lajord, Saskatchewan, on January 14, 1922 to homesteading parents Ellert Olaus and Rosa May (Hesla) Hanson. Born one of 11 children on the prairies of Saskatchewan, Myrtle obtained her RN certification in 1944 at Regina General Hospital. She worked first in Chilliwack, BC, then Wenatchee, WA, and later Cincinnati, OH, before returning to Saskatchewan in 1949. On May 31, 1950, Myrtle married Dr. Leicester Perry Eaton, and they lived together in Kipling before relocating to Edinburgh, Scotland, where Leicester obtained his Fellowship in surgery. They returned to Canada in 1952 and lived in Kipling and Langenburg for several years. In 1958, they immigrated to Grafton, ND, where they made their home and raised their five children. For more than 35 years they continued to enjoy summer vacations with family and friends at Kenosee Lake. In 1993, they relocated to La Crosse, Wisconsin where they enjoyed proximity to daughters Gwen and Elizabeth. Following Dr. Eaton's death, Myrtle was welcomed into the home of Dr. Mark and Gwen McConnell, where she greatly enjoyed her family and final years. Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. L. P. Eaton on November 22, 1998. She is survived by four daughters, Leslie Ann Eaton of Minneapolis, MN, Jane Heather (Larry) Sanders of Wellington, Ontario, Gwen Yvonne Eaton (Mark) McConnell and Elizabeth Eaton Moen, both of La Crosse; one son, Bradford John (Ellen) Eaton of Granger, IN; nine grandchildren, Christopher (Krystle) Sanders, Rozlyn nee Sanders (Brian) Kerr, Ellen, Calvin, and Grace McConnell, Elizabeth and Heather Eaton, and Olivia and Lewis Moen; five great-grandchildren, Sydney, Samantha, Riley, Lewis, and Maya; one sister, Violet Benz of Vernon, British Columbia; and many nieces and nephews. A private family service was held in celebration of her long and blessed life on August 30, 2016. Her love and laughter will be greatly missed.
