N. PATRICIA NEDDE
N. Patricia Nedde Peer, Indianapolis, entered the dawn of her life on February 24, 2017. She was the beloved wife of Charles Peer; mother of Scott C. Peer and his wife, Tracy; and grandmother of Adele Kaitlin Peer, and Maxwell Spencer Peer, all of Soquel, CA. She is also leaving dear and faithful friends; most especially her spiritual counselor, Rev. Fr. Robert Ross S.J., of Covington, KY; her brother, Norman A. Nedde, Jr.; nephew and Godson, Larry Nedde; and nieces, Cindy and Julie Nedde, all of Indianapolis; also in-laws, Ellia and Stan Stram; Margie Peer, of Perrysburg, OH; cousin, Dr. Norman R. Nedde, wife, Jan and their son, Alex of Los Gatos, CA; Joan Trainor and family of
Pittsburgh, PA and Joel Pockalnik of Houston, TX. She also leaves behind friends, Sheryl and Larry Elstro and longtime neighbors all of Indianapolis. Waiting for Pat at her "New Dawn" are her beloved parents, Peg and Norman Nedde, Sr.; dear grandparents; and loving aunts, all from
Pittsburgh, PA. Pat was born on St. Patrick's Day and grew up in
Pittsburgh, PA, and was a graduate of Slippery Rock State Teacher's College (now Slippery Rock University) where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Health, Physical Education and Recreation along with World History. She taught in the Pittsburgh Public Schools for five years. She met Charles on a beach in Sarasota, Florida on July 3, 1956, and they were married Oct. 13, 1956, at St. Mary of Mercy Church in downtown Pittsburgh. It was a fairy tale romance that lasted over 50 years. She and her husband lived in Ft. Wayne, IN where she taught 5th/6th grades at Waynedale Elementary and Physical Education at Kekionga Middle School. While there, she earned her M.S. in Guidance and Counseling at St. Francis College (now St. Francis University). Transfers moved the family to Germantown, TN and then to Indianapolis where she taught at Wyandotte and Nora Elementary schools in Washington Township. Retiring after 30 plus years of doing what she loved; teaching children Physical Education and showing her students their strengths, their limits, and how to be successful within those bounds. She wanted every child to be the best they could be and was overjoyed when they discovered they liked who they were! That was Pat's philosophy about teaching and really, it was Pat herself. She volunteered at St. Vincent's Hospital, The Literacy League, the Indianapolis Zoo, and St. Augustine's Home for the Aged at various times, and was a Guest Teacher in the Indianapolis Public Schools. After retirement, she and her husband traveled extensively to all parts of the world, the seven continents, the fifty states, seventy-eight countries and she shared their experiences with many school children and friends. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church from 1968 until 2006. In addition to deep involvement with parish programs, she had the honor of reading scripture at the Funeral Mass of former Archbishop O'Meara. From 2006 until the present, she and Charles regularly attended weekly mass and services at the chapel at St. Vincent's Hospital, as well as services and celebrations at St. Augustine's Chapel with Little Sisters of the Poor. At both chapels they were accepted as part of the warm and faith filled family. Pat treasured their care, love, and prayers always. Having been born on St. Patrick's Day, Celtic Spirituality was very much who and what Pat was. A visitation will be held at LEPPERT MORTUARY, 740 East 86th St., Indianapolis, on Sunday, February 25, 2017, from 4-8 p.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Chapel celebrated by Fr. Robert Ross, S.J.; Pat's Spiritual Encryptment will be at Our Lady of Peace Mausoleum on Monday, February 26, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. At Pat's request, if you wish, please send a donation in her memory to the Little Sisters of the Poor.
