Elsie Lyons Hobgood, 80, passed into eternal life Saturday, July 10, 2010 following a short illness at the Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrell's Inlet, SC. Born March 7, 1930, to the late David E. and Lucy Esther Kimble Lyons, she was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, retired from General Electric after 20 years and K-Mart after 19 years. Mrs. Hobgood was married on December 26, 1946, to Everett (Jr.) Hobgood, who died in December, 2003. She enjoyed her church family, gospel music, traveling, crocheting and caring for her special great-granddaughter, Marybeth.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Lyons and Patsy Lyons Coke, and one brother, Roy Melvin Lyons.
Surviving include her daughter, Maryln Saunders Harris of Owensboro; her sons, Darrol Everett Hobgood (Debby) of Owensboro and Doyle Allen Hobgood (Debbie) of Andrews, SC; seven grandchildren; Chad Saunders, Alicia Schwartz, Kathy Hobgood, Aliena Hobgood, Ashley Hobgood, Jamie Lambert, and Lisa Gaskins; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Truman Lyons (Geraldine) of Owensboro, Rev. James Lyons (Freeda) of Danville, and two sisters, Jean Evelyn Hobgood of Central City, and Sarah Bowling of Owensboro; several nieces and nephews.
Services are 12:00 noon on Saturday, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial in Bethlehem Cemetery in Bremen, KY. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday and after 10:00 AM Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 240 Whittington Parkway, Louisville, KY 40222, or Macedonia Baptist Church, 4839 Millers Mill Road, Owensboro, KY 42303, or Bethlehem Cemetery Fund, c/o Marion Hargrove, 3929 Hwy 81, Central City, KY 42330.
