BURROWS, Nancy Elizabeth, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, 12/21/22, at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Lake Pointe. "Let your true beauty come from your inner personality, not a focus on the external. For lasting beauty comes from a gentle and peaceful spirit, which is precious in God's sight and is much more important than the outward adornment of elaborate hair, jewelry, and fine clothes." 1 Peter 3:4. To some she was called Nancy, friend, or neighbor; but to the ones she loved most she was "mom" or "Nana." She never forgot a birthday, sending cards or calling/singing happy birthday-her signature closing was "all my love, always." In her 80's, she "mastered" the use of Amazon Echo Show, spatting with Alexa to "drop in on" or call her family (depending on which Alexa was working that shift). She would give us updates daily on the weather, her physical therapy, or just to say hi. She always ended her calls saying "I love you"-our daily routines will be forever changed. Nana ensured you knew how much she loved you and that you were special in her heart. Most importantly, we know that her love continues with the gift of everlasting life, as she celebrates in Heaven with her family, especially her daughter Sandy. Before leaving this world, Nana told a caregiver that she was enormously proud of her family and "ready to go." Throughout her life, she spent many years caring selflessly for others. We thank our Heavenly Father for allowing us to see, through Nana, the same love He has for us. In addition to caring for her family, Nana had a heart for animals, especially dogs and cats. While living in east Texas, she cared for chickens, donkeys, miniature goats, and a "giant" pot-bellied pig-every furry and feathered friend was named and loved (even the mean roosters). She had a green thumb and spent her favorite hours gardening. Even in her 80s, she worked happily in the 100F+, sunny Texas weather.
Nancy was born March 26, 1934, in
Woodstock, Vermont to Irvin and Eva May Lober and graduated from Sanderson Academy in
Ashfield, Massachusetts in 1952. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bob) Burrows (1984); her daughter, Sandy Dodson (2007); and Andy Dodson (Sandy's husband) (2016). She is survived by her children: Bill Tyler of Fort A.P. Hill, VA; Stella Laicer and her husband, Al, of
Rockwall, TX; Valerie Eshleman and her husband, Tim, of
Sykesville, MD; and Veronica Burrows of
Cape Coral, FL.
She was very proud of her 11 grandchildren: Amanda (James) Harris (Mechanicsville, MD), Drew (Tara) Dodson (Oak Ridge, NC), Fred (Sarah) Laicer (Hubert, NC), Tristan (Helene) Laicer (Fort Leavenworth, KS), Marissa Laicer (Superior, CO), Adam Laicer (
Thornton, CO), Caroline (Lucas) Sartain of
Tyler, TX; Abbie Eshleman (
Sykesville, MD); Antonio Talavera (
Cape Coral, FL); Lily Eshleman (
Sykesville, MD); and Carolina Talavera (
Cape Coral, FL). She was the proud great-grandmother of 7: Alanna, Carter, Riley, Aiden, Lily, Madilyn, and Theo. Nana hoped to meet her eighth great-grandchild, Campbell Dean Sartain, but will join us in celebration from Heaven instead. Additionally, she was the great, great-grandmother of 2: Izabella and Jaxson.
Thank you to the wonderful and caring staff at Beacon Harbor Healthcare. She loved all of you. You made the final years of her life special by sharing family stories, fixing "Alexa" even when she was not broken, brushing her hair, even letting her hold the bunnies-thank you for going above and beyond. We also thank the following people: William & Karen Matthews for visiting Nana at Ridgecrest and spending time with her. Lucas Sartain, for graduating from being Nana's "future grandson-in-law" to her favorite grandson-in-law. Thank you for visiting her at the hospital in between classes, and for all the time you kept her company--she loved you more than you will ever know. The late Reverend Mike Deaton (RIP) for being at ETMC when we needed him the most and Jeff Siemens for being the angel God sent to save Nana's life in 2013.
Her ashes will be scattered next year, and a memorial will be placed at Union Chapel in
Van, TX. "Rejoice for if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation. Everything old has passed away. See, everything has become new! Thanks be to God that we can all make a new start through His gift of peace and forgiveness of all our sins in the name of the Triune God: Father, Son + and Holy Spirit!" "As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem." Isaiah 66:13
