Nancy Durec Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 18, 2024.
Nancy Dorothy Durec, age 85, of Fulshear, TX, passed away peacefully on Oct. 17, 2024 after a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Nancy was born to Stephen and Anna Durec on April 20, 1939 and raised in Elmsford, NY. She graduated from Alexander Hamilton High School in Elmsford and then pursued her passion for health care at White Plains Hospital School of Nursing on full scholarship, earning her Diploma and a graduation award "Excellence in the Operating Room" in 1960. The following year, Nancy became a Registered Nurse. She worked in hospitals while simultaneously continuing her education at Hunter College of The City University of New York, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Physiology and Health with a minor in Psychology in 1967. She also served as the President of both the Biological Sciences Club and the Physiology Club. After pausing her career due to the birth and early years of her children James and Michelle, Nancy returned to work in a variety of settings, including home care. She sought many professional enrichment seminars and was often nominated and recognized for her consistent caring, skilled and reliable service to clients and the community over her 40-year career.

Nancy was a devoted supporter of Saint Joseph of Arimathea Episcopal Church in White Plains, NY.

Throughout her life, Nancy demonstrated her good nature to those she met. She was gifted with genuinely connecting with others through her true kindness and keen interest, while also exhibiting unwavering perseverance and resilience. Nancy's sense of humor brought joy and laughter to her patients and friends, often with witty remarks about herself. Some of her memorable quips were: "I'm a young, hot chick," "Does someone want to trade body parts with me?" and "My brain is on another planet." When Nancy became the patient, she expressed her gratitude to those who supported and cared for her, as she understood the skill required.

Nancy is survived by her beloved children James Mazzone (Danielle) of Hickory, NC and Michelle Green (Ned) of Fulshear, TX, as well as five adoring grandchildren Andrew and Michael Green and Evangeline, Victoria and Vincent Mazzone. Other survivors include two nieces Susan Fiske (Ronald) of Fairfield, CT and Stephanie Festa of West Palm Beach, FL.

Nancy was preceded in death by her sister Eleanor Festa and four cherished cats Ty, Tiger, Patches and Lucky.

A private interment will be held at Saint Joseph of Arimathea Episcopal Church in White Plains, NY. Should family and friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Joseph of Arimathea Episcopal Church, 2172 Saw Mill River Road, White Plains, NY 10607 or to The Michael J.
