July 23, 1952 ~ April 12, 2025
Nancy Corinne (Veilleux) Durocher, 72, peacefully transitioned from this life in the early hours on April 12, 2025 at home with her family. While her days here on this earth were limited; her journey continues forever.
Nancy was born on July 23, 1952, in Putnam, Connecticut, the only daughter of the late Lawrence C. Veilleux and Eleanor M. (Mitchell) Veilleux.
Nancy met her husband, Wayne, in 1971. They married on January 22, 1972, and went on to have a daughter and twin boys. In 1976, they moved to Canterbury where she lived out her remaining years. It was here she could be found tending to the roses and flowers she loved so very much or watching the birds, squirrels, and wildlife all around her. If she wasn't outside, she could be found inside watching the Red Sox or Nascar racing. Her weekends were spent with her family, often on rides with her husband admiring God's beauty along the way. One of her favorite places to end up was at the beach in Point Judith, Rhode Island.
A graduate of Killingly High School, Nancy dedicated her professional life to supporting childhood education. She started her career in bookkeeping and transitioned into childhood education to be at home with her children. While her children were young, she worked at Brooklyn Killingly Early Childhood Center and later the Plainfield Public Schools. Her commitment to education extended far beyond the school system, her warmth and compassion left lasting impressions on countless students and co-workers alike.
Nancy's love for children was a defining part of her life. One of her greatest joys was reconnecting with former students who would greet her with enthusiastic hugs and heartfelt exclamations of "Mrs. D!" These moments were treasured reminders of the impact she had made in their lives.
Her devotion to family was unwavering. She was a steadfast source of support for her husband Wayne T. Durocher; her daughter Julianne Vanwinkle; her sons Stephen L. Durocher and Thomas A. Durocher; and her grandchildren Karliann E. Rowett, Kolby J. Durocher, Ethan T. Durocher, Cassie L. Durocher, Gary L. Winters, and Bethani L. Durocher. Nancy's love extended deeply into each generation; she celebrated every milestone and stood by them through every challenge.
Nancy was also a lifelong member of Packerville Baptist Church in Plainfield, where she served faithfully as a youth group leader and found joy in nurturing the spiritual growth of young people. Her faith guided every aspect of her life and inspired her involvement with Vision for Missions, a Christian charitable organization that supports children in Jamaica and Lodwar, Kenya through funding for preschools, health clinics, and orphanages.
She is remembered by those who knew her for her kindness, sense of humor, generosity of spirit, and deep love for others. Whether offering a helping hand or sharing a laugh at just the right moment, Nancy brought light into the lives around her.
Nancy is also survived by her brother Richard M. Veilleux. She was predeceased by her parents Lawrence C. Veilleux and Eleanor M. Veilleux, as well as by her brother Bruce M. Veilleux.
