Nancy Grauer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 8, 2025.
NANCY CAROL GRAUER (1938-2025)

Nancy Carol Grauer went for her final walk at St. Anthony's Hospital Lakewood, Colorado, on Monday, July 28, 2025. She was born at St. Joseph (Industrial City), Missouri, to William and Catherine M. Dewey Bonner, on May 28, 1938. She and her older brother John A. Reed were adopted by Frank E. Reed when he married their mother, and she became Nancy Carol Reed. Mrs. Grauer graduated from Rosedale High School in Kansas City, Kansas, in 1956. She studied nursing at Saint Margaret's Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas, and became a registered nurse in 1959. She married the love of her life, Richard L. Grauer of Marysville, Kansas, on August 2, 1958, at Perquimans County, North Carolina, while he was stationed with the United States Navy at Norfolk, Virginia. They had three children, Richard, Michael, and Tamela, and celebrated 50 years together in 2008. Mrs. Grauer worked as a registered nurse in orthopedics and surgery at hospitals and surgical centers in Fort Scott, Kansas; Concordia, Kansas; Lexington, Missouri; North Kansas City, Missouri; Smithville, Missouri; Topeka, Kansas; Olathe, Kansas; Wheatridge, Colorado; and Golden, Colorado, for over 50 years. She also served as a parish nurse in the Golden community. A devoted Christian she worshipped and served in Methodist churches as an adult, including her final church home, Golden First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Grauer belonged to multiple service organizations, including Red Hats, and was an avid walker, Jazzerciser, and Curves member. She led an exercise/Bible study class at her church for nearly 20 years believing that exercise in moderation is good for the body and soul.

Mrs. Grauer was preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard of Golden; son Richard Joseph (Ricky) Grauer of Longmont, Colorado; grandson, Richard Ian Grauer of Twenty-Nine Palms, California; her brothers John (Johnny) Reed and Frank (Bud) Reed of Kansas City; sisters-in-law Marty Reed and Marilyn Grauer of Kansas City; and brother-in-law Timothy J. Grauer of Marysville.

Mrs. Grauer is survived by son Michael R. Grauer and wife Leslie Baker of Kansas City; daughter Tamela L. (Tami) Grauer, of Golden; grandchildren Amy Grauer, Lancaster, CA; Matthew Finney and wife Catie of Sand Springs, OK; Samantha Grauer, Golden; Hannah Grauer and husband Zachary Walls of Texhoma, OK; Canyon Harvey, Dudley, MA; Autumn Oertli and husband Daniel, Wheat Ridge, CO; Sarah Grauer, Amarillo, Texas; and eight great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Ronald K. Grauer and sister-in-law Fran Grauer; and sister-in-law Jane Grauer, all of Marysville; nephews Jeffrey and Joseph Reed; nieces Jamie Reed, Julie Reed Dyer, Stacey Grauer Galante, Paige Grauer DeRuyscher, and Jenn Grauer; and countless friends amongst her fellow nurses, parishioners, Red Hats, walkers, and exercisers.

I have never met someone so unique like Nancy. She was never judgmental and always gave the best advice but most of all, Nancy would always see the best in everyone when we couldn“t. Nancy has the kindest heart and soul and when she loved, she loved deeply. Nancy will be missed beyond measure and she will be a friend that will never be forgotten. God has definitely gained a beautiful angel! My condolences to the family and all her friends. Nancy will always be alive in our hearts. My heart goes out to you all. God Bless!
