Nancy Harvey changed the trajectory of my life when I happened to find out about a short term job she wanted to fill to have someone go watch breeding Alala at the Maui Bird Conservation Center. I was a longterm postdoc on my way back from New Zealand when I heard about the job from a friend of a friend. I never saw the ad and didn't know anything more than it involved Hawaiian crows and CRES Behavior division. I managed to leave a message on Xmas eve 1996 and didn't expect to hear anything back, but on New Years eve morning at 0 dark 30 Nancy called me at my parent's house in Moorpark CA. We had a funny conversation and I found my soulmate of a boss. Nancy a world class primatologist was excited to find a PhD ornithologist and I was soon making my way to visit Nancy in her wonderfully cosy/cool home in Leucadia. She and I shared loads of crazy stories and began our new life as boss and employee. This was possibly the luckiest meeting I have ever had in my life. Nancy taught me so much and brought me into her gang of friends. Just a great person and I will miss her so much.
