Nancy was my neighbor growing up in fact lived two houses up from us. Jim.. Alice.. Nancy and her sister Joan... Also was in Nancy's class at Norwood high....We also got bit by the same German Shepard in the neighborhood. I remember Jim coming down to my house and comparing dog bites with me. :) Nancy was the best...good person...I'm sure she's playing a big part up in heaven. Also sure she is watching over her family and everyone down here in our world. Wanting everyone to be happy enjoy our lives till she sees everyone again...Stay strong/happy ...Nancy was and I'm sure she still is strong/kind and smiling...

Dear Hickey family,
I am so sorry for your loss. It is perhaps said too often but, Nancy really was one-of-kind. One of the best kind...
Nancy was one of the first people I met as a petrified new grad. It didn't take long to realize she was a very competent nurse and powerful advocate for both pt's and fellow nurse's. I was always relieved when she was working. Nancy had the unique ability to filter out the clutter and solve the issue, be it managing a sick call or moving a compromised pt to the appropriate unit. Even if things did not go your way, you knew the right decision had been made.
Hers is a loss that will be deeply felt.
You are in my thoughts and prayers...

Sending love and prayers for your strength and courage to continue. No one could have been more loved and cared for than Nancy as she and you fought this incredible battle. I am so sorry for your grief and loss, but rejoice with you both in her wonderful, too-short life and in her arriving Home with the Lord.

My condolences to your family. Nancy was totally an amazing, beautiful woman, as I am sure you are aware. I started working at BWH in 1984. She was one of the first people I met. Was an absolute joy to work with. Her love, care, guidance, humor and ability to say it like it was unsurpassed! Always wasn't afraid to speak up for those of us who couldn't and was a constant sense of support.
She spoke about you all the time and you could see how proud she was and how much she loved you all.
Those of us in her BWH family have truly lost a wonderful woman and mourn her passing.

Mr. Hickey, what an amazing woman you took to be your Bride. You had one of the greatest soul mates God could have ever given to anyone.
Nancy, was an Angel who walked among us showing the love and compassion of Christ to everyone she met. Her title was not her weapon used to strike those under her leadership but as a tool to make sure that the least of us had a voice. What an amazing soul. There were many days of working with her over a 14 years that I knew God had placed her in my life as His voice. During some of my toughest days as a single parent Nancy had words of encouragement. She had this way of seeing God (good) in every situation and every person. Her compassion and desire to meet you where you were was genuine and never based on a curiosity of knowing . I have watched Nancy find was to keep people employed when others lost faith in their ability to perform. Her corrective action talks were like pep talks; she was never loud, rude or angry but always seeking ways to meet the needs of others. She was our hope in our hopeless situations and our strength when we were weak. What a Jewel.
Nancy Hickey was a Proverbs 31 woman: Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. She did good and not evil all the days of her life. Strength and honor were the clothes she wore daily. When she opened her mouth it was filled with wisdom; and in her tongue was the law of kindness. Every day she stretched out her hand to the poor; and she reached forth her hands to the needy.
She lived her life in such a way that her children even in her passing will call her blessed; her husband also, and those that knew her will praise her works. Although we never had a conversation about her beliefs, I believe she was a woman who feared the Lord. So it is with a heavy heart but a grateful spirit that I can say that she gave from the of the fruit of her hands; and now her own works are praising her in the gates.
Rest on Nancy! We will forever be grateful to you for the countless lessons of humility you taught us daily.
I will forever cherish the memories we created,
Teressa Brown and family

Nancy was an amazing, courageous, generous and loving person. Her quick wit, fast smile and laughter is something I will always remember. She lived her life with passion...she took such pride in her profession; I don't know anyone who loved nursing as much as Nancy did. She had faith in people and not only supported people to be successful she trusted their abilities; I know that her unfailing support of me was something I cherish. It was her family that she most treasured, her love for her husband Billy and her sons Billy and Kevin was boundless. My heartfelt condolences to the family and the larger community who mourns the loss of such a light.
