Nancy Hughes Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 19 to Sep. 18, 2023.
Nancy Ann Hughes, a longtime resident of Libertyville, passed away on September 16, 2023, in South Jordan, Utah. She was 88. Nancy was born on August 26, 1935, to Vincent J. Nolan and Agnes Mae Ruth Sharples in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. After graduating from White Plaines High School, Nancy pursued a degree in Education from Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY. Her first adventure after graduation was embarking on the S.S. Independence leaving NY harbor for a year of teaching at the Marymount International School in Barcelona, Spain.

Not too soon after her return, she met and married Edward D. Hughes and together they went on to raise 5 children. Nancy and Ed lived in many states throughout Ed's career, finally in 1982, they settled permanently in Libertyville, Illinois. Nancy was a member of the St. Joseph's rosary group, developed a love of creating artistic greeting cards which she shared with family and friends and most importantly she loved to be around family. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching: football, baseball (Cubs), hockey (Blackhawks) and you could always catch her watching golf. She was always in attendance and a huge cheerleader of her grandchildren's sporting and school events.

Nancy was predeceased by her husband, Edward. She is loving mother to Colleen Kelliher (Patrick), James (Amybeth), Madeline, Eileen Horgan (Thomas), and Maureen. She is a proud grandmother of 10 grandchildren: Shannon, Meaghan, Michael, Grace, Enya, Nolan, Brigid, Callie Walker, Catherine and Edward. Nancy is survived by one sister, Judy Garvin of Minnesota and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

There will be two funerals celebrated in her honor: Monday, September 25th, at St. Joseph's in Libertyville, Illinois at 11:00 a.m..

[Saturday, September 23rd, St. Andrews Catholic Church in West Riverton, Utah at 9:00 a.m.]
