Nancy Nell Simpson Jacumin, 78, of Connelly Springs, died unexpectedly Monday June 9, 2014. Mrs. Jacumin was born on February 10, 1936 in Burke County to the late Roy Price Simpson and Muriel Morgan Simpson. She graduated as Valedictorian from Hildebran High School and Suma Cum Laude from Appalachian State University. She taught in North Carolina Public Schools for over 16 years, teaching in both Mecklenburg County and for the majority of her career in Burke County. Nancy Nell served many years with the Women's Auxiliary of the Gideons International, and faithfully served with the Board of Visitors of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. She served her community by volunteering to teach children and adults to read and volunteering with the Red Cross. She also enjoyed serving with East Burke Christian Ministries. She was a faithful follower of Christ who served for many years at First Baptist Church Icard, where she served many capacities in the church including organist and pianist for over 40 years, Sunday School Teacher, and WMU Leader, and the for last ten years at East Valdese Baptist Church Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Senator Jimmy Ray Jacumin of the home; her children, Mitzi Jacumin Lane and husband Mark of Hickory; Marty Jacumin and wife Lori of Raleigh; grandchildren, Ashley Lane Moody and husband Brad, Morgan Jacumin, Jarrett Jacumin, and Sara Beth Jacumin; a great-grandchild, Brody Lee; and a sister, Linda Simpson Thompson and husband Donald and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday June 13, 2014 at East Valdese Baptist Church. Officiating will be Pastor Brett Howell, Dr. Marty Jacumin and Dr. Will Graham. A private family Interment service will follow. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00-3:00 P.M. at East Valdese Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Waldensian Trail of Faith, P.O. Box 1256, Valdese, NC 28690 or Gideons International, PO Box 326 Valdese, NC 28690.
