Nancy Jones Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 23, 2024.
Nancy Lee Jones (Landa), passed away peacefully with her husband, Lance Jones, by her side on May 7, 2024 at the age of 62. She had been fighting a courageous battle with Endometrial Cancer for the past 4 years. Nancy was born in Malta, Montana on January 31st, 1962. She was adopted by Clair and Inez Landa of Billings, Montana and was lovingly taken in as their third child behind Nylene Landa (deceased) and brother Mark James Landa. Nancy grew up in Billings, Montana and Graduated from Billings West High in 1980. She went on to Montana State University where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in 1986.

During her time at MSU, Nancy fell in love with Lance and they were married on September 11, 1982. After Lance's graduation in 1983 they moved back to Billings and bought their first home. In 1986 Lance found a job in Phoenix and they relocated to Arizona. Early in her career, Nancy enjoyed her work as a bookkeeper.

In 1988, they had their first child, Austin, followed by their daughter, Ellie, in 1991. Nancy stepped away from work to focus on raising the children during their younger years. Not long after returning to the workforce, Nancy decided she wanted a career change and went back to school to get a Masters degree in Education. She went on to teach various courses, from Culinary Arts to Business Applications, over the next 20+ years at Mesquite High School. The teaching career paired well with family life allowing time with her children in the afternoons, on holidays, and during summers. In her final few years before retirement, she enjoyed teaching at Heritage Academy.

Nancy's love for Jesus was unwavering and her zeal for life was contagious. She possessed an infectious laugh that was easily shared as she would crack jokes with those around her. She enjoyed time spent in her garden and was a fabulous cook, often pairing these passions with her gift of hospitality to fill her table with friends and family. She treasured her close friendships, which she faithfully cultivated, and also looked forward to her regular bible studies. Nancy's favorite pastime in recent years was playing on the floor with her 5 grandkids. Those kids learned that "Granny Nan" loved them "Big as the sky" which she would remind them of anytime she said goodbye to them.

In 2020, Nancy was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. She doggedly battled through surgeries, chemo therapy, hormone therapy, and immuno therapy. She spoke very little of her struggles and instead, she chose to live life large. She exhibited an incredible love for Christ that provided her with immense comfort and peace, even in the face of tremendous adversity. We grieve the loss of our sweet Nancy but take solace in the fact that her faith has now been fulfilled and she rests in the Father's hands.

She leaves behind her husband Lance Jones, her two children Austin Jones and Ellie Lassiter, her 5 grandkids, and her dog Archie.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 8th at The Desert Botanical Gardens, Dorrance Center, located at 1201 N. Galvin Parkway, Phoenix, AZ 85008 starting at 11:00 AM with reception following. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or an organization of your choice.

Nancy entered our lives around 1989. We always considered she was sent to us by God. Nancy utilized her keen intellect to sort through our manual accounting process and set us up with Practice Management software that served us well for decades. We became instant friends back in the early years. My husband and I admired the way she and Lance navigated marriage, work and family. They demonstrated faith in all life´s endeavors. Many good times were shared as young parents. We remained in touch when Nancy left to pursue her teaching career. Nancy had a wonderful sense of style and was always willing to share best practices. More recently, I was fortunate enough to witness Nancy´s faith in time of adversity. Her concerns were not of herself, but of those she loved and especially of Lance. I will miss her friendship, humor, wise counsel, faith, courage, sense of hope and optimism. All the qualities of a good life. I will strive to live well so that I may meet you in heaven my dear friend.

My name is Bruce Allred. In the time I worked with Nancy at Heritage Academy, I always talk to her and new how kind and good she was to everyone. She worked on the 4th floor, so even at work she was always close as she could be to God. I know she's in the arms of family and and our Savior

Nancy Jones and I were career change educators, teaching in the Business Department at Mesquite High School. We shared neighboring classrooms and supported one another in our teaching curriculum. We both served together as Advisors for FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), a student club for business students. Nancy became our Department Chair during our tenure together.
Mrs. Jones, as we referred to her at school, was indeed a fun-loving, energetic, caring and Christ-like individual. Nancy was my best friend during our Mesquite days working and enjoying teaching together.
I will miss her easy smile and her sound of laughter.
Until we meet again!!!
