Nancy and I were pals at the University of Chicago Law School, where she displayed her - to others -unusual way of learning law ( memorizing) and teaching all the Midwestern kids the value of brand name designer clothing. We loved her! She also loved carrying her camera around and taking many pictures of all of us. Law School was fun with Nancy around. Then she went to NY. She told me early in the 80s that she wanted to join a firm trip to China and took it upon herself to organize the whole thing so that the partners met the right people in a culturally appropriate way. That really made her a star. The rest is known.
Nancy never took herself too seriously, it she was real serious about getting where she needed to be. I'm sorry I didn't get to spend more time with her - our lives took very different paths. But she was a great lady, and let nothing get her down. Here's to you Nancy.

I remember interviewing with Nancy in 1993 during an on-campus interview when I was a 2L at the University of Chicago. I loved my 30 minutes with her. She was one of the rare female law firm partners at that time, and she was so friendly and beautiful. But more than that, she helped me figure out what to do with my life. She told me that I needed to be a litigator and not a transactional lawyer after I told her, in response to her question about what I liked about law school, "I love to read cases, compare cases, and write about cases." So that's what I did (and I later became a con law and civ pro professor). I have told this story countless times. I had not known of her ski accident until now. I am so sad to hear of her passing but thought you would enjoy hearing about what a big impact she had on my life (and I am sure on many others).

I first met Nancy at a lunch at Felidia in the summer of 1987 for summer associates interested in M &A. I was immediately impressed with her. She was clearly the real deal and a genuine legal prodigy. But greater than her incredible legal talent was her kindness to me. I´ll always remember her for that and offer my condolences to all of her family, friends, and the Skadden community. Ilan Nissan

Nancy was accomplished beyond the norm, she was smart, she was talented, she was brave, and she forged on, in spite of difficulties that would have halted most others, she was an inspiration. I knew her to be a loving wife, mother, sister and aunt.
My sincerest condolences to Mark, Eric, Jane, Gary, Floyd, Erica, Caroline and Mark's sister Lois.
