Santa Fe - Nancy Blair Moon, 91, died Wednesday August 20, 2025 in Santa Fe, NM. Nancy was born in Akron, OH, the daughter of Howard "Red" Blair and Elizabeth Wilkin Blair. In 1938, the family moved to a hobby farm on the edge of Springfield, MO when Red Blair became head football coach at Southwest Missouri State College. Nancy's childhood experiences on the farm engendered a lifelong love of nature. An early photo captures her embracing a beloved tree on the farm; as an adult, Nancy enjoyed taking artistic photos of natural landscapes.

Nancy attended Greenwood Laboratory School, graduating from the high school as salutatorian. She then attended DePauw University before transferring to Drury College, where she graduated in 1955. In 1953 she married James F. Moon, a friend from her earliest days at Greenwood, who was subsequently ordained an Episcopal priest. Together they raised four children while living in Warrensburg and Kansas City, MO. The marriage ended in divorce in the mid-1970s.

In the 1960s and 1970s Nancy was active in civil rights and social justice efforts, particularly as a member of Kansas City/Crisis, a group formed in response to the 1968 assassination of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Her interest in social justice, mental health, and spiritual wholeness led Nancy to pursue a career as a therapist. Nancy earned master's degrees in mental health counseling and social work from the University of Missouri. Her thirst for knowledge and spiritual growth led to additional study with many renowned teachers and mentors, including Carl Rogers, Ron Kurtz, Sam Keen, Stephen and Ondrea Levine, and Stanislav and Christina Grof. Nancy was widely respected and loved for her compassionate skill as a therapist and spiritual guide.

In her later years Nancy moved first to Saint Louis, MO and then to Santa Fe, NM to be closer to family. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother John, and sisters Louise and Harriet. Nancy is survived by her sister Suzie; her children, Kathy (Marge), Jim (Laure), Andy (Cara), and Joe (Trudy); and by her grandchildren, Sara, William, Grace, Dylan, Rose, and Jessica.

The family will hold a private memorial.

Nancy was my beloved friend and mentor. She influenced countless lives in the Kansas City area through her work as a therapist, her sponsoring of growth workshops, her work in justice, and her caring presence. I remember a friend once said, "I want to be like Nancy when I grow up." So many of us felt that way. I greatly admired the equanimity she developed as her consciousness grew and deepened over many years. She was a light for me, and so many others.
